I've only done it once, and I advertised it. It happened at Kahunaville. The wife, son and I ordered, the food was brought, we already had the drinks. No utensils. I never saw the server again. I went to the back, got my own utensils because no one would give me the time of day. We ate. No one asked "how is everything" or came to our table the whole time. An hour passed, we were done but still hungry because that was only the appetizers. I took out my wallet and sat there obviously waiting to pay, nothing. I said screw it, start walking towards the door, this will get their attention. I still was holding wallet above my head and stopped at the door and did a 360. Still nothing. We left. It's been over 10 years now and I still don't think they realize we left. I'm not paying for that crap. | That is really bad.. But I really expect nothing less from the Kahunaville.. I hated that place when it came to eating there.. Okay, justified!! I DO stand corrected.. Sorry Curly!! Quote:

We both LOVE this place!! Only thing I do not like is that they only have Mexican based beers.. I'm not a huge fan of Corona, but I'll drink it if it's there.. Now, I love dark beers and I do (DO) love the Negro Modello.. That's some good stuff right there!! Not as good as Guinness, but it's not bad..

If that's what constitutes a horrible meal and/or service, I suspect that you have rarely "enjoyed" a meal in a restaurant. |
The problem was that I did have my ID however my friend did not. I understand the waitress was doing her job ... but dont tell us we cant finish our drinks and then demand we pay for them !!! Piss poor customer service !!!
However, I called there headquarters and they agree with me and sent us a free dinner for two. I am going to request the same waitress and manager to wait on us !!! |

What criteria goes into your decision for how much to tip?
We both agree that the demeanor of the wait staff is a major point. If they are an ass to me, they aren't getting squat.
Same goes for inexperience but everyone is new at sometime so I tend to be pretty forgiving from that perspective, unless it's major (Example: my Ex girlfriend was extremely allergic to sour cream. Enough could have swelled up her throat and killed her. Messing that up would NOT be good and happened but I caught it before she ate).
As long as I see that they seem to be on the ball but just new, I'm not going to hold it against them.
I also hate it when they try to act all smart by not writing your order down, then F it all up.
My GF says that the quality of the meal shouldn't be a part because the tip is for the server and the server doesn't prepare the food.
I disagree. Yes, the server didn't cook my steak but as I see it, he/she is my 'liasian' to the entire restaurant. What am I supposed to do?
I ordered a burger at TGI Friday's last Friday. I ordered it medium, it came charred. Now how am I to know whether the server messed up or the 'chef' (this WAS Friday's.. not sure they deserve that title).
Oh, and the sour cream thing.. That happened at Friday's also.
I am SO done with that place.
Anyone else's thoughts? |

My Mood: | | | Re: Border Cafe I tip 20% as a rule... more if the server was very attentive and helpful. I only tip less if the service and restaurant were so bad that I know I'll never return. Although, I can't remember tipping less than 20%.... maybe once a real long time ago.
Generally, I find people who worked in a proper restaurant tip well and are a lot more understanding than those who have never had the restaurant job experience.
Another note... I avoid, as best I can, chain restaurants establishments. The food and service is just , IMO. | | The Following User Says Thank You to hockey For This Useful Post: | |

Anyone else's thoughts? | I have seen places wher there is a "tip Jar" for he cooks. I always thought that at6 the end of the evening or shift that the cooks got a cut of the tips - could be wrong though.
As to the shoe leather burger tell the waiter or waitress and they will generally have it redone - aalthough that takes time. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
