The waitress probably realized a little too late that she should have asked for ID in the first place and felt that it was better to ask later than never. The manager didn't have to act like a jerk though by threatening to have you arrested. Ridiculous.

But how does it get to that point?

The only way any talk of any "arrests" being made is if someone asks "What happens if I refuse to pay?"

It never had to get to that point.

It was not unprofessional for the server to ask for ID, even if it was belated.

It is undignified to be so offended by the request that you feel you are obligated to make a scene over it and threaten to walk out on the check.

If you walk out on a check, you deserve to be jailed.. Bad sevice or not..
If the service was bad to begin with, I would have walked out before ordering. If I was offended in any way - I would have paid for whatever was consumed and then walked out..

Good help is hard to find - especially in the fern-bar type restaurant biz. Kids today (sorry to those low 20-somethings out there) just don't give a hoot...

What some people never understand is, you kill more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

Example A: Customer is demanding to see yet another manager, insisting that his entire meal be comped, and avowing he will never set foot inside the premises again

Example B: Customer pays check, approaches the hostess or a manager, if one is recognizable, and explains that the meal and/or the service they received was truly unsatisfactory and that they are disinclined to return because of it.

Which customer is likeliest to walk out with a $40 gift card for a return visit?

I also never understood why someone screaming at me that they are never coming back to my restaurant is any motivation for me to reduce or comp their check.

If you're never coming back, and you're going to badmouth us anyway, why should I do anything at all for you. Pay up and beat it.

If you are asked for ID and you do not produce it, you do not have to be served (and, by law, should not be served, no matter what your age).

If you make an ass out of yourself and offend management, you do not have to be served.

If you refuse to pay a check, you not only do not have to be served, you can be arrested.

However, I'm stuck back at why someone would raise an issue with being asked to produce identification.

Just to add to Kid's note....

If you drop the tip to 10% or so....then send a detailed email to the Company's home office, you're sure to get a phone call from the local manager with an apology and a gift card so they can WOW you on the next visit....

Apparently, being asked AFTER they had received drinks made it "The Principle Of The Thing."

And "The Principle Of The Thing" was worth ruining a meal over.

Goes towards personal inclination, I believe.
