(We don't. BTW. I swear.)

I want to homeschool my kid. I've wanted to homeschool my kid since before I had any.. since terrible, horrible experiences with not learning a damn thing that was of any use anywhere (not even trivial persuit!) in high school.
If you're already homeschooling a group of kids (and groups of kids is often how it's done, not only for the social aspect but also to give parents a break), and you've got the money.. why not just open a freakin' school?
Socialization in a school institution in a moot point. They'll get socialization.
I think everybody's looking at this like it's going to be a huge, normal sized school building with just these two kids and army of servants running around in it.. and that's not the case at all. This will be an actual school. I'm sure they will be accepting children other than their own. And knowing Will Smith, he'll probably be giving out very generous scholarships to kids and giving them opportunities those kids wouldn't have otherwise had.
I think it's a great thing, all around. Here we are bitching about parents not caring about their kids' education in one thread, and when we hear about a parent so involved with his kids and so passionate about education that he starts a school.. we're not down with it? That makes no sense. | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Pythoness For This Useful Post:

I'm not looking at it as, "Will Smith started a school for his kids," I'm looking at it as, "Will Smith is unhappy with education in this country and wants to make a change, so he's starting a school.. that his kids will attend." |

But it says he's opening the school for other kids, too, right?
Probably on a private type basis...and probably merit scholarships like others have said. |

lol.
No seriously. Give it a chance. I'm very hopeful that Will Smith won't just have this be a "rich kids only" type of thing. I think those kids will ultimately end up doing things and going places that other schools don't do, but like I said before, I think he'll give scholarships to kids who need and deserve those opportunities as much as he can.
Look at his roots. His mom was a school administrator. He got grounded for using slang or improper grammar in the house. He's a homeboy, straight out of Philly. He knows how it is. I don't think he's going to make this into a money issue, as much as is possible (the school will need funding, though). | | The Following User Says Thank You to Pythoness For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Will Smith Invests Nearly $1 Million In A School For His Kids i think will smith has only good intentions for his kids. he came from a humble background, worked hard and got lucky to be where he is. i'm sure he is only looking out for his kids. i don't have any kids, but if i did and was in his position, i would probably do the same thing. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
