yeah our 4 y.o. had a bad accident at daycare when she was 2, the tooth died, and she has a partial until she gets her permanent teeth. She had gas when they pulled the tooth, she should only be maybe cranky when shes back alert.

Good luck Dreamear!!!! I'm sure everything will be fine!

My son fell when he was 3 and chipped his front tooth at my girlfriends house. I took him for an emergency visit and my dentist sealed it off and said he would be fine. I had him create a fake 1/2 tooth to fill in the gap that chipped off because his school pictures were the following week. So a few months ago (he's almost 6 now), he trips at the same friends house and breaks the cosmetic piece back off. Well I knew that piece could've broken off at anytime, so I didn't really worry about it. My son said he was fine, so no one really worried. Then 4 or 5 days later, he woke me up crying his eyes out and his face had swelled about 5 times its normal size and he was in unbearable pain. He was rushed to the ER with what turned out to be an abcessed tooth that was so badly infected he had a potentially fatal blood infection. He was drugged, tooth yanked, while I sat crying hysterically that my lil guy was in so much pain, and then we spent 3 days in the hospital recovering. Terryfing experience yet my lil one absolutely loves going to the dentist. He actually tries to fake a toothache sometimes to try to convince me to take him there. LOL He's a weird kid.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and thoughts... and thanks for the stories too. It helps to know others go through this stuff too.

The laughing gas was good and funny, she had the giggles which of course made me laugh because it was so funny. They decided to do one of the root canals and a filling right next to it. She did fabulous with the filling and that piece of the drilling. She was giggling on and off. But then they switched drills for the root canal and used what the doctor called a bumpy drill (never had a root canal no idea of what it is) well the noise from that terrified her. She wanted to cover her ears and of course once she was upset... there was no calming her down. So they did a quick finish and let her up.

Because of how upset she was, they weren't able to finish 100%, she only has a temp... so I go back again tomorrow for them to finish. But since it's securing the crown, it shouldn't be bad.

Other than that she was excellent and she doesn't seem to have a problem with going back to the dentist again... which is good. Although we have 3 more root canals left with the bumpy drill... so maybe I use cotton in her ears to soften the noise... she has always been sensative to loud noises... I still have to hold her hears for fireworks.

Sorry I didn't post that afternoon, but she was extremely whiny and wouldn't let me move without her clinging onto me for dear life!!

Hey Dreamer, I would suggest getting actually ear plugs for her. I'm pretty sure they are only a few bucks at any local drug store or grocery store and will definitely work better then just cotton.

Also, does your dentist give treats (i.e.-small toys, stickers, coloring books, etc) for children who do well with their visit? That has always been a perk for my son. He knows he gets a treat, a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss every time we go.

That's a good idea! I'll have to stop and grab some.

Yes she gets a treat... in fact, they even gave her a frog tatoo before they started. So then she was giggling at the frog on her hand...
