Relief That WORKS For Colic

When my youngest son was few months old, he came down with colic. I tried everything the doctor told me, warm baths, swaddling, hyoallergenic formula, nothing helped. He cried every minute he was awake, he even whined the entire time he was eating. My nerves were shot.

His uncle came over one day with a small box and a 5-gallon bucket. In the small box was mylocon drops and nothing was in the bucket. He proceeded to sterilize the bucket, gave the baby the mylocon, put just enough water in the bottom of the bucket to cover the baby's belly, (a tiny bit warmer than his bath), put the baby in the bucket, (he held the baby the entire time he was in the bucket), held him up just enough off the bottom to let him pass gas. My son sat in the bottom of that bucket and farted and burped for ten minutes. When we got him out he didnt cry for hours.

After that everytime someone came over and they didnt hear him cry before they came in, they knew I'd be holding him the bucket, lol

You have to give the Mylocon drops religiously, don't miss one dose or it will take you back to day 1. The bucket works because of the warmth of the water combining with the pressure in the bottom of the bucket, (you can't get that from anything else, not a sink or a bathtub), eases the gas and relaxes the stomach muscles enough to let it pass. It also distracts the baby enough to make him forget long enough about the pain to actually allow this work. Sterilize the bucket with boiling water and alcohol before using it. You can put stickers etc on the inside to make it more colorful for him/her to look at. REMEMBER, NEVER, EVER, EVER, TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE BABY WHEN THEY ARE IN THE BUCKET!! Make sure you hold him/her a little off the bottom so their fat lil baby butts dont squish up and cut off the farts, lol.

This works for all sorts of stomach ailments, not just colic.

:-)

Re: Relief That WORKS For Colic

Mylicon drops never worked for my daughter. We found huge success using the "football hold" with her. No meds needed. We just carried her around like that all the time. The pressure on her stomach kept her happy. Her colic was not as severe as some so this may not work for everyone.

Good luck and remember... it doesn't last long. Before you know it... that baby will be an obnoxious teen.

Re: Relief That WORKS For Colic

When I'm collicy, I find that being in bed with my wife on a cold night under a heavy comforter helps me pass for relief.

Or in a car, on a humid day in a driving rainstorm.

Thanks for the tip, Decent. This may well come in handy this spring.

Re: Relief That WORKS For Colic

I was lucky, my kids never had colic, I am unlucky because my kids grew into ungreatful adults towards me.

Re: Relief That WORKS For Colic

I have to admit I thought Decent's idea seemed a little unnecessary when I read it.

Our new baby doesn't have colic, but she IS having a hard time passing gas. Yesterday was an all day and night affair. Poor little thing...and mom and dad were fried, to boot. We tried EVERYTHING.

She finally broke loose late last night and got back to her typical 2-3 hour sleep cycle after I managed to induce a monster blast with her laying on my chest and rubbing her back.

But I'm buying that bucket this morning, just in case. I'm dead serious.

Kid.. Try Mylacon (sp?)... When my daughter was born, we went through 4 or 5 different formulas and she still had problems with gas.. Mylacon (again, sp?) worked wonders when she had those problems.. It gets better man.. It really does - Then it gets worse...

Oh, we use Mylacon like it's going out of style. Not TOO much, but after every feeding.

This is my second child. Although...it's been 8 years since I had to deal with this. My first was pretty agreeable, though. I don't remember her being as tough as my newborn.
