I think it's up to every person who is over the legal age to have this stuff done (which, in this state, is 18) to make up their own mind. If you're under 18, then it's your parent's decision to make and you should abide by it. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to witchofthedogs For This Useful Post:

He also needs to realize the pain (and possible disfigurement) he will suffer if he ever gets in a physical confrontation. Those things have also been known to wear out the teeth where they constantly rub like a tongue piercing. My son had it all including the nose. I flipped out when I saw that one. Eventually I got used to it and he respected my wishes not to wear it around the older family members. He stopped wearing it shortly after we were goofing around slap boxing. I caught that thing in his nose and he started bleeding and eyes tearing up. He got mad and I laughed. I said, "Damn, your ass would be easy to kick." Quote: |
I'm worried about things like infections, future jobs, what people think when they see a kid like that, etc.
| Unfortunatly, he can be the greatest kid in the world but no one will take him serious with that look, unless he wants to work at minimum wage jobs his whole life. My son had pretty much everything pierced EXCEPT his lip. Now he's 22 and he still has the tongue thing. As for his private parts, I don't need to know or care to look.

My Mood: | | | Re: Piercings I have piercings and I work in the corporate world. I'm smart enough to remove my tongue ring when I do for an interview and to only wear one pair of earrings, if I wear them at all. I'm also into rings, I have just about one for each finger, in fact I have doubles for my index fingers. But once again, at a job interview... I just don't do it. I know and see MANY guys where I work with ear gauges.
Some people are right, it could be just a phase because he's 16. On the other hand, I have had my piercings for over 12 years and I STILL wear them proudly. In fact, after the birth of my daughter I had to have gall bladder surgery and the hospital removed my belly ring and lost it. It closed, I went and had it re-pierced within 3 months of my daughters birth. And I buy new belly jewelry anytime I see anything I like.
He wants his lip pierced, lip piercings are normally a tiny hole. Talk to him and confirm it's small and easily hid. My niece has her nose pierced and removes it for interviews as well. If h gets his lip pierced, he can remove it for a job interview. Piercings and tattoos do not automatically mean low paying jobs.

What's everyone else's opinion on this? | My son for the longest time wanted to dye his hair black. I told him when you turn of age you can do what the hell you want with your head but until that time I'm the boss and I say no... turned 18 and forgot about it. Kids are goofy today. All I can say is pick your battles.

| Sorry Dream, I didn't mean all piercings. I had the nose piercing in my head (lol)
when I wrote that. The nose piercings look extremely idiotic IMO. From far away, it looks like snot. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Curly For This Useful Post:

He fought in Desert Storm, he is a pretty high payed guy here and he has a small spike in the middle of his bottom lip. Otherwise he is very well put together and wears really nice professional clothes and all (including suspenders), very cool guy and the piercing I don't think effects his career.
That i am sure is a special case i guess. I don't have any piercing, and wouldn't want any.
I do have a few tattoos though, and plan on getting a few more. not where anyone can see though. |

I think, if a person refuses to remove distracting jewlrey then are they really taking this job seriously...? I had an ear ring that I wore for 7 years and the night before I started working in the corporate enviornment I took it out and never put it back in. Like it or not, there are plenty of people out there who see them in a negative light, and when I started at my career I decided that I needed to give myself every opportunity to succeed. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Delguy92 For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Piercings Ok, I've decided to let him do it. It was an agreement of sorts. He can get his lip pierced, once, one side, very small hoop, if and when his earlobe grows back to it's normal size after he removes the nickel sized gauge he's got it worked up to. In this agreement, it's the only and last piercing he's allowed to get until he's living on his own with no monetary support from me, even if he IS 18. As my Dad used to say "You live under my roof, you live by my rules, I don't give a damn how old you are". |
