My kids November School Calendar...

Wow.... only 12 days of school for the month of November.

My kids were off for Elections Day on the 4th, they will be off this Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 11th for Veterans Day. They have one complete week of school (17th thru 21st) then they have the entire week off for Thanksgiving, which is new this year.

Is this the norm for Delaware public schools or is Brandywine the exception?

Oh...and the Phillies Parade was an excused absence (in some schools) bc there were so many teachers going to the parade and a shortage of substitutes. It was almost like they wanted the kids to stay home so they wouldn't have staffing issues.

Christina is pretty close to that. Makes me wish I had indeed ended up teaching

One elem. school alone had 9 teacher call outs by the end of the day the Thursday before the parade. That did not include other support staff in that school. The sub service could not cover that one school.

Re: My kids November School Calendar...

Just wait 'til your kids get to High School and they get to have "spirit" days....where no one teaches anything and the kids get to hang around all day and play monopoly.

And then in March when the Newsweek rankings come out, BSD will brag about how all 3 schools were in the top 1000 (which is measured by the number of students taking AP exams - not passing, just taking - divided by the number of enrolled seniors). Scanlon needs to wake up!

Re: My kids November School Calendar...

My daughter is in catholic school and they were open on Election Day and are also open on Veterans day (I have off work those days so I am taking advantage of the quiet time I am getting at home to get things done) Their Thanksgiving vaca starts the Wednesday beforehand. So thankfully she will only have to go back to daycare for 1 day this month... yay!

Re: My kids November School Calendar...

I dont' know how working parents handle the days off like that. Appo just found out that a couple of days off in February has turned into a full week off due to the Summit Bridge closing for repairs.
I work nite shift so I am home with the kids during the day but how do parents that work during the day do it? I know some juggle who stays home and some pull favors with friends. I have thought about going to work during the day but it's the time off from school that keeps me on nite shift!

I'm fortunate enough to have a friend that not only watches my daughter when school is out but functions as my secretary as well....thank God!
