Mr. Bearhead

My son has this thing.. for lack of anything else to call it.. that was passed to him from a friend of mine who had a baby about three years before Aidyn was born.

It's his most special, favorite thing in the world.

It's a square of cloth, with a bear head and arms sticking out of the middle.

Is there an actual name for those things? The squares of cloth with the heads sticking out of them? When he first started messing with it, I called it Mr. Bearhead for lack of anything better. Aidyn was too little to give it a name and I had to call it something other than "it" and "that thing."

Anyway.

Mr. Bearheard is getting on in years. My son is 3. He originally belonged to another little boy 3 years older than Aidyn. So he's at least 6. He wasn't really that worn when I got him, before Aidyn was born, but Aidyn really has put some mileage on him, because he never lets Mr. Bearhead out of his sight.

I'm worried about eventually having to replace Mr. Bearhead.

The problem is that Aidyn will accept no substitutes. If I am going to replace Mr. Bearhead, I'm going to have to find one of the Mr. Bearhead clones that MUST be floating around out there SOMEWHERE.

I know there are a lot of different styles and makes of these head handkerchief things. Different people have tried at different times to give Aidyn one.

Whereas most kids might ignore the fake lovie, or maybe cry and say it's not the same, Aidyn will SCREAM bloody murder and RUN away from it.

He really really freaks out. His grandmother on dad's side put a "Mr. Elephanthead" in his Easter basket.

Worst. Thing. Ever.

When they tried to show it to him (they weren't even really trying to give it to him, just show him) he started to cry and went running, screaming, from the room.

It's as if he thinks that fake Mr. Bearheads are demons that are going to torture him before stealing his soul or something, that's the way he reacts.

So. I need to find an actual-honest-to-goodness Mr. Bearhead, not just a replacement that sort of looks like it, or is the same color. 'Cause it won't work.

Mr. Bearhead is a green handkerchief thingie with satin trim and a white bear head and arms. The tag says it's "Martha Stewart Collection - baby" so they were probably sold at K-Mart, but I haven't ever seen one there.

I'll try to post pics, but does anyone have any ideas of where I can find one?

Or even know the correct name for those handkerchief head things? That would help out a lot on an E-bay search.

Re: Mr. Bearhead

Makayla had these two thing she would carry everywhere called "spot"(it was actually a stuffed form of the dog from the book) and "woobie" a small square extremely soft blanket thing from Carter's. She carried them everywhere and wouldn't sleep without them for years. My MIL found a whole bunch of clone "woobies" one day at a store and bought like 5 of them to keep on hand so if Makayla was without the original one than she would have a stand-by. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't...
Eventually she grew out of the whole phase which was a relief to us all, but coincidentally Jordan went to daycare today carrying "woobie"....

PY, try babies-r-us I remember seeing them there before, anywhere that sells baby stuff would most likely have them because that is a popular type of toy amongst babies.

Re: Mr. Bearhead

Just take it from him and tell him to grow up

Seriously though it might be time for him to give it up (the other baby gave it up at 3)

Even though he said it in a weird way he might be right. Do you know anyone who is about to have a baby? You might be able to ask him to give it to their baby like his friend gave it to him when he was all done with it. It's a tough thing though...

Wow Decent! You're good!!! Now here's a new challenge: Can you find a Duck Dodgers in the 21st and 1/2 Century sericel with Duck Dodgers hanging on to the moon with Marvin Martian hanging on to him and K-9 hanging on to Marvin? It was the only piece of my animation art collection that I REALLY miss and haven't been able to find.

Sorry to hijack Py, but she already found your thing!

Re: Mr. Bearhead

Decent you are friggin AWESOME! I am so giving you rep for that! My middle daughter has separation issues and has had them since she was little. She was so attached to a stuffed bunny, snuggle bunny, my mom gave her that we had to go get another one (thank God my mom found another!) to switch them out when one got too scuzzy. We've had to actually make a whole new body for both bunnies over the years. She is 10 and still sleeps with it and takes it to over nights at my moms or a friends. Py, personally I feel if that's his special "thing" and it gives him comfort, do whatever you have to do to get him another. If that's not the same one that Decent found fro you let me know and I'll try to make a reproduction for you. As a mom that's gone through something like this I sooooo get it. Let me know if you want me to try and sew one for him. But hopefully the one you are looking for is the one Decent found, I'd even try to find one or two more for back ups.
