Py, my daughter has a blanket and a bear, she has had both since infanthood... she just turned 6. She went to daycare and they took naps so they went back and forth daily, but since she was 3. Mr. Bear and blanket are for bed time only. No more carrying them to the store and everywhere else. When she is home, she may sit and play with them and she uses them on her baby's and her tea party's involve Mr. Bear and the the blanket is their picnic blanket.
The important thing is... the darn things stay home. The ONLY time those items go with her is if we go overnight and that is because she still sleeps with them. I have no intention on making her give them up since she only sleeps with them.
I also hope your son isn't like my daughter.... she could tell when I tried replacing Mr. Bear with a new Mr. Bear (exact same one), she looked at him cuddled all up then politely asked me for Mr. Bear. I told her that was Mr. Bear... she looked me dead in the eye and said he is NOT Mr. Bear, where is MR. BEAR? I felt like I was in hostage negotiations. I'm telling you, there was no convincing that kid she knew it wasn't Mr. Bear...
