My Mood: | | | Karate for Kids? I haven't really started anything on here, so forgive me if this doesn't look right. But I'm getting ready to enroll my son in karate. He's into some sports, but it's just playing them for fun. No competition involved. I was wondering if there are any places around here that anybody recommends to going to? Or if there are any places that you don't recommend? |

A long-time friend of mine, who has been doing tae kwon do for decades (and was my instructor when I took it) is Erwin Watters (Welcome to Korean Martial Arts Institute : : : KMAI Instructors : : :) at Master Godwin's Korean Martial Arts Institute (Lantana Square location in Hockessin). He is brilliant (brilliant) when it comes to instructing kids. I've known Erwin since he was 16 - I trust no one (no one) more than I do him, particularly when it comes to instructing children.
Master Godwin's website is here: Welcome to Korean Martial Arts Institute : : : Home Page : : : | | The Following User Says Thank You to witchofthedogs For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Karate for Kids? 2 of my 3 boys LOVE karate class.. we go to HAC.. (kind of weak) but its cool..
they get to learn the basics and see if it is something they actually enjoy..
If they keep on enjoying it, I will pony up the dough to get them into a real
class..
HAC is starting to get REALLY crowded.. so I doubt we'll be there too much longer,
guess I need to find one for my boys too.. :-/
but YES, karate (imho) is GREAT for kids.. especially if they stick too it.. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Zeke For This Useful Post:

My Mood: | | | Re: Karate for Kids? Going to definitely check out the KMAI place. Their website looks great and it's got everything that I was looking for (self discipline, confidence building, etc). I might check out the one in Newark since it's a little closer to us then Hockessin. Witchofthedogs, do you know any of the instructors at the Newark one? |

Unfortunately, I don't - it's been almost 11 years since I studied at the school. But I can tell you that Master Godwin doesn't screw around when he hires instructors and they are all very dedicated to teaching and to the craft. |
