If you give students the choice between going to school and dropping out and going to work to support themselves, the overwhelming majority are going to want to stay with school.

Some want out. The only reason they come to school is because they have to by law, or because it means they DON'T have to get a job yet.

But they have no intentions of learning anything.

Re: Japanese Teachers Tour DE Schools

I put some of this on parents. Not all though. Some kids are just defiant in their teens.
In other cultures. Teachers kick ass. And this is the big deterrent.

Some "difficult" kids get put on a monthly planner.

They have to get a signature from every teacher, every day. For each class, the teacher writes how their behavior was that day, what homework was assigned and when it's due.

It's for the parents. The parents check the kid's book when he gets home from school.

The kids I sign for....they are stone serious about making sure it's nothing but good in that planner.

I know for a fact that mom/dad/guardian brings the hammer down if it comes home bad.

It tells me someone care's about this kid's education.

Some kids get planners, and don't even bother getting them signed. Nobody at home is gonna check it, anyway.

I find it sad these kids have nobody to care.

My parents cared. I didn't, not then.

School was boring and I was one of the class pariahs for whatever inscrutable adolescent reasons my peers had. I dropped out, got my high school diploma at 23 at night school.

Re: Japanese Teachers Tour DE Schools

My parents were very involved in my education. When I started high school my dad picked my classes. I wanted to go in regular classes like my friends and he picked all the college prep courses.
