I'm gonna be crass here but oh well.

After 17 kids..... Well....

You remember when you put a brand new sock on your foot. Have to make sure it is the right direction, scrunch the front of the sock to your toes, then grab the end and snugly pull it on.

Ok, now instead, put on those old gym socks that you put on when you are mowing the lawn. The elastic is shot, they crack when you try to pull them up, They kinda stay up but not because of the elastic. It it because they have been bleached 100's of times and are stiff.

Well she's the old gym socks... I seriously doubt that he is feeling much of anything.

Hot dog down a hallway..?

God Bless 'em. They seem like a very happy, healthy family..and apparently are living debt-free. I don't think it's selfish at all. I know some people who have one or two kids and by the way that the parents live, they are pretty damn selfish in their choices over their children.

I'm much more disturbed about 'parents' molesting, starving or stuffing their kids in the microwave or freezer than am I worried about the Duggars and their ever-growing family. More power to them.

Ok, no dispute there, but here's the way I see it.

Just because there are people out there who do horrible things to children, doesn't mean that what the Duggar family is doing is right.

They literally have their children raising their other children. Yes, I'm sure that there is love in the family but the mother can't possibly be giving her children the attention they need. The comfort and nurturing given to them by their siblings is wonderful, but I feel that NOTHING replaces the bond between a mother and child.

Also, think about it. Why are they having all these kids? 1 word: sex. They continue to produce more children and let them all raise each other just because they want the big O. Sounds pretty selfish to me. (Someone needs to give the mother a cucumber and the Book, BJ's for Dummies).

They are well aware that they follow the Quiverfull movement and what that entails, (rejecting all forms of birth control including natural family planning and sterilization), yet they continue to have sex and bring more babies into this world.
They used to be real estate agents but the bottom fell out of the market and now they are having a tough time making ends meet. (So I'm not too sure about the debt-free part...) So now what... think of a typical family with 2 children with today's financial burdens.
Now multiply that by 16!

Even with all this, they have given no indication that they will ever stop. They will just continue producing children. We can only hope that menopause is just around the corner.

I think they just like having a big family, my dad was one of 11 kids....

(I think it was 11, it was more then 8)

ETA: After reading the other posts, money and stuff doesnt make a difference. My dads mom was pretty much a single mom i think for most of the time, my dad was the only child by his father, and they were dirt poor, like he picked cotton in the fields as a kid for work. He grew up, like the rest of his siblings, loving and receiving love from his mom (my grandmother).
