Re: 7year old bedtime

My kids all had 8pm bedtimes at that age. They sometimes wouldn't settle down until 8:30 or so, but they still had to be in bed at 8. They could and still can read quietly for a half hour, but then that's it. Weekend bed time was 8:30. Now that they are 11,10 and 9 their bed time for school days was 8:30 and 9:00-9:30 on the weekends. We've been letting them stay up until 9:30 since school is out and they can sleep in every morning. They don't have a set bed time at their fathers and they usually come home tired and cranky. Even when they have sleep overs 10:00 is lights out. Schedules are important to kids. And they need a set schedule and adequate sleep. IMO 10:00 is way to late for a 7 year old to be staying up.

Re: 7year old bedtime

10 o'clock sounds really late for a 7 y.o. But if she sleeps til 8am that is 10 hours. The really important thing would be keeping to a schedule.

my daughter who comes here every other week on saturday nights. i put her to bed at 8. i usually come in and read a book to her till about 8:30. so she really dont go to sleep till after 8:30.

am i wrong for making her go to bed at that time? her mother basically jumped my case when i picked her up saturday and told me that she dont go to bed till 10. SORRY this is my house and i set my own rules. then when my wife took her back she got on her about it too.
hey lewin-8:00 is by far more appropriate than 10:00-Children need the adequate rest! I have raised 2 daughters & am working on 2 preteen sons & they always had a bath before bed too & the older boy just said to me-"Mom-don't know why, but I just feel like I can go to sleep easier when I get my shower". The answer is-it soothes them!

My daughter just turned 6 and her bedtime is between 8 and 8:30 school night or not. She is in her bed at 8 and usually sound asleep by 8:30.

Re: 7year old bedtime

10:00 is way too late! I think when I was a kid we went to bed at 8:00 or 8:30 during the school week, don't remember what is was on the weekends.

Re: 7year old bedtime

Each kid is different. Mine could not go to sleep before 9:30 or 10:00, even when she was 7. She's 16 now and will sometimes not go to bed until 1 or 2, depending on what projects are due when (during the school year). She's old enough to accept responsibilty for being tired.

Re: 7year old bedtime

If my kids do not go to sleep by 8:00 they are almost impossible to get up the next morning. My oldest (5) will refuse to get dressed and my youngest (18 months) will baracade herself in her crib so I can't lift her out, LOL. My kids treasure their sleep time
