Value City files for bankruptcy

Value City files for bankruptcy protection
Monday October 27, 3:17 pm ET Value City blames economy in filing for bankruptcy, plans to close remaining stores

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Discount retailer Value City Department Stores and its subsidiaries have filed for bankruptcy protection and plan to close their stores.

Bankruptcy papers filed in New York say the Columbus, Ohio-based company blames declining sales, tight credit and the sour economy for crippling its business.

The filings follow a series of restructuring efforts and layoffs aimed at keeping the business afloat. It has closed more than 75 stores since December 2007.
It has 66 open stores and more than 4,500 employees in 14 states. SOURCE

Isn't that about all Atari had anyway!!! Man the good old days with the fun video games like pong, and that tank game...(which I think was called Tank.) There was no ESRB ratings or anything. No blood, no killing aliens, for damn sure there was no dude running around cusing at Aliens (mainly PREY), and no online matchmaking either. Why ever did we play Atari? How much fun was it really? I do miss it though!

Re: Value City files for bankruptcy

But there's still hope!

Dollar Tree Fighting To Keep Doors Open!
Wednesday October 29, 4:13 pm ET Dollar Tree battles plunging economy, plans to keep stores open

COMMON SENSE, USA (AP) -- Discount retailer Dollar Tree and its subsidiaries have created an unprecedented and as yet untried plan that hopefully will enable them to keep the stores open until the economy begins to incline.

Dollar Tree Ceo - Macon Brock Jr, was quoted as saying he'd lower his own salary from $31,000/year to $29,000. Salaries 'across the board' will follow suit. Only the cashiers, who earn minimum wage, would be safe from the pay cuts. Also, prices will be reduced on all merchandise from one dollar to 99 cents. However, the 'Dollar Tree" name will remain unchanged, as Brock was also quoted saying 'We can't call ourselves the '99 Cent Store', the name's already in play, and 'Less Than A Dollar Tree' sounds, well..... stupid."

Brock hopes to one day pay off his Ugo and take a trip cross-country to shake hands with all of Dollar Tree's loyal clientele. The company hopes to stay afloat through the current economy crisis and remain faithful to the public that has served them well in the past with their own hard-earned money.

Ah, yea of limited resources...there's always FOREMAN MILLS! I was there today...after passing through the metal detector I found a licensed Brad Lidge T-Shirt/Jersey for only $12.99...and for $7.99 I picked up a NL Champtionship T-Shirt with World Series Logo, I call it a rally towel, which I will swing in my cave, in front of my big-screen HDTV while watching the game (in a little less than 15 minutes).

I did notice that both my entire credit card number and expiration date printed on the reciept that I signed, so I expect to be calling Chase next month and advising them of fraudulent purchases on my account...so glad that I have no liability there!

GO PHILLIES!
