Toyota will pay dealers to extend service hours and to “make things right”

Dealers urged to stay open longer to accommodate recall repairs (2/4/2010)DealersEdge Headlines
Toyota is reportedly sending its U.S. dealers checks for up to $75,000 to help assuage customers in the wake of the massive vehicle recall.

The Associated Press reports that dealers received a letter saying, "Within the next several days, you will receive a check from us (no strings attached) with a simple request -- 'do the right thing on behalf of Toyota customers'." The message came fromToyota group vice president Bob Carter.

Mr. Carter thanked dealers for extending service hours and providing car washes and other services. He also suggested other measures, like additional hires to help with recall repairs, mobile repair services, dedicated recall service lanes and complimentary oil changes.

Toyota is sending the checks based on the number of cars each dealer sold last year. Dealers who sold fewer than 500 cars will get $7,500. Dealers who sold more than 4,000 will get $75,000.

I have to say this impresses me very much. Ford has never done anything like this

Other than the massive headache of having to deal with so much so quickly, this really is a pretty big boon for Toyota dealers/service departments.

Thousands and thousands of recalls coming in for work (paid for by Toyota, Inc.), and what if just 25% of those recall jobs need extra work? Service Engine light, oil change, alignment, tires, coolant flush, etc. etc.

When we had the Firestone recall I had so many tires, and no where to put them.
they were stacked up in the shop and I know several were stolen. I almost slept here with a shotgun.

Toyota needs to stand behind their cars/trucks - I think they are doing well to aggressively pursue fixing the problem. Yes, I am a Toyota fan, but this is a great example of taking responsibility for your mistakes.
