Sallie Mae to bring 1,100 jobs to Delaware

From Delaware Online....

Sallie Mae, the giant Reston, Va.-based student lender, will open a major Delaware operation near Stanton, creating 1,100 new jobs in the state by 2011, Gov. Ruth Ann Minner announced today.

Sallie Mae expects to hire approximately 750 employees in for its new Credit Operations Center by the end of 2010 and an additional 350 employees in 2011, said Nikki Boone, a spokeswoman for the Delaware Economic Development Office.

The center is expected to add $173.7 million to Delaware’s economy in the first year and $262 million annually when fully staffed, Boone said.

The center will open in the 22-acre office campus near Interstate 95 that Sallie Mae bought in October for $20.75 million. The seller was Nationwide Life Insurance Co. of America.

Sallie Mae plans to invest an estimated $10 million for Capital Expenditures at the site and will lease a portion of the complex to Nationwide, Boone said.

Those interested in applying for a job with Sallie Mae can visit www.salliemae.com/delaware or call 866-833-3847.
