I don't recall exactly, but for a long damn time, if you were choosing a "home" team to root for based on geographical closeness, guess what your only option was?
I'll give you a hint.
It wasn't Baltimore.

If the Eagles were home and didn't sell out, you didn't watch football at all on Sunday. They blacked out the game. Sometimes CBS Philly would end up buying up the remaining seats just so they could show the game and sell the advertising.
Nowadays, you can watch whatever team you want whenever you want. But, once a fan, always a fan. Otherwise, you're just a cheerleader for hire.

My Mood: | | | Re: Why not 'Ravens' and 'Orioles'??? Dont forget that the ravens have only been around since 96, so if you figure if most people decide their "favorite" team around the ages of 6-8 yrs old your not gonna find any life long ravens fans who were born before '89
when it come to Philly being the closest city was never an issue. I have been a 49ers fan (yes its painfull) and an A's fan as far back as I can remember. When i was a young kid they were the best, Montana/Rice,bash brothers, great teams. but at the same time I have always been a huge Flyers fan. as far as the Phills and Birds are concerned Im a fair weather fan. I agree with Chase they are fun to cheer for,and when my best teams are in the crapper (A's are 20 games out) its real easy to jump on that wagon, but I aint losing any sleep over 'em
Now my brother has always been an Orioles fan, he also likes the Bears and the Penguins, ug! I still cant figure out what the hell is wrong with him

We get a bad reputation as being "hard on the players" etc etc etc. booing Santa, throwing batteries at players and snowballs at the Pope or whatever....
But the atmosphere is intense. I've been to other stadiums, not many, but some, and everyone is on their cell phone, or sampling every frickin' food item, or picking their nose....
Good or bad, Philly fans care. some would say too much.... but we care. | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Bada Bing For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
