BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik lost five units of blood, but doctors never considered his life in jeopardy after the player had his carotid artery nearly severed by a teammate's skate in a freak and frightening accident. Zednik underwent an hour of surgery to reconnect the artery Sunday night and was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Buffalo GeneralHospital on Monday. He was awake and cooperative with the medical staff, doctors said.
I wish the guy the best. All I could say was OH SHIT!

I've played ice hockey so many years and I can say one thing.. Those skates, if sharpened the right way, can be as sharp as a razor blade... Hope him a speedy recovery..

Scrappy, where did/do you play hockey?? i played at SCW for years in the wilmington senior league, and then the DSHA league at the UD.
i was one of the founding members of da Chiefs.
I was watching the game when this happened, it's ironic too, the last major skate issue was also in Buffalo when Malarchuk got his throat cut open as a goalie back in 1989.
Also, at the Flyers/Rangers game this past Saturday one of the linesmen took a skate to the face, ended up with stitches and a broken nose ...
