Phillies

Tickets went on sale this morning for the 2007 season.

Another sign that spring is around the corner.

The wife and I enjoy very much to go to a Phillies game now and again. Her Aunt in PA has season tickets we grab when she can't go.....

I am a super Phillies Fan. I will never go to the game though. I rather watch it on TV and be able to see all the replays and better angles.

I am the opposite. I would rather listen to the game on the radio than watch on TV. Action is too slow. But, there is nothing I enjoy more than an evening or afternoon at the ballpark. The excitement in the air, the mild evenings, the sound of the ball making contact on the end of a players bat... that is something you can't get through the TV or radio.

John Vukovich, Phillies' Long-Time Coach, Dies

PHILADELPHIA - March 8, 2007 - John Vukovich, the longest tenured coach in Phillies history, died early Thursday morning at a Philadelphia Hospital.
He was 59 years of age.

Vukovich spent 31 of his 41 years in baseball as a member of the Phillies organization. He was originally selected by the Phillies in the January 1966 draft, and played parts of seven seasons with the Phillies (1970-71, 76-77, 79-81).
He returned to the organization as a major league coach in 1988 and wore the uniform for 17 consecutive years, through 2004.
In addition to the Phillies, his major league career included the Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds. Vukovich was a member of two World Championship clubs, the Reds and 1980 Phillies.
Vukovich's coaching role with the Phillies included first base, third base and bench coach, plus coordinating spring training and working with the team's infielders. During his Phillies coaching career, he worked under six different managers. In 1994, he was a coach for the National League All-Star team.
Vukovich served as an interim manager for the last nine games of the Phillies' 1988 season, and he was also an interim manager for the Cubs prior to joining the Phillies.
He is survived by his wife, the former Bonnie Loughran, whom he met at Veterans Stadium, two children, Nicole Stolarik and Vince, and triplet granddaughters, Anna, Lena and Stella Stolarik. He is also survived by two brothers, Rich and Bill, of California.
Details about funeral services have not been announced yet. The Phillies will be wearing a black patch with "Vuk" on their uniform jerseys starting next week and through the 2007 season.

The Phillie Phanatic was attacked Saturday morning by 93.3 WMMR DJ and Sixers' PA announcer Matt Cord's dog Scout. Cord was on air covering the line at the Wachovia Center box office, where tickets for The Police, playing this summer at Citizens Bank Park, went on sale, according to the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS.
The Phanatic came outside of the Wachovia Center to start giving stuff away, when the mutt lunged at the lovable green goofball, prompting a man in line to shout that the dog "must be a Mets fan." The Phanatic retreated inside the Wachovia Center until Cord safely put Scout back in his car. Cord says that the dog is great with people and other dogs, and that he can't say why she went after the Phanatic, who was not injured by the canine.
