I love watching the classic races.

Former Cup champion Dale Jarrett will replace Rusty Wallace in the booth this season for ESPN's NASCAR coverage, and Wallace will become the lead analyst for the network's studio programs.

I think that this is a great move. I loved his father in the booth and for the few races that Dale called last season I thought he did a great job.
IMO, ESPN has a terrible booth announcers. This will make the program better. |

| | Resident SuperHero! | | | | | Re: Nascar 2008 Monster Monument will be new fan attraction Sculpture will honor speedway's winners from the past By MIKE FINNEY, The News Journal Posted Sunday, January 27, 2008
PHILADELPHIA -- Dover International Speedway is in the process of creating a monstrous addition to its landscape.
In an effort to bring some character to the speedway and salute all of the past winners at Dover, track officials announced Saturday they are in the process of erecting a Monster Monument that will become the centerpiece of the track's new Victory Plaza.
The monument, which will be sculpted in the design of Dover's unique winner's trophy -- a concrete creature named Miles the Monster -- will stand 46 feet tall with red, glowing eyes. It will grip a full-size NASCAR race car in its right hand.
Dover International Speedway officials are expecting four-time Cup champion Jeff Gordon to unveil the monument two weeks before the track's spring race weekend, May 30-June 1.
"It is going to be a focal point for our race fans on race weekend," Gary Camp, director of public relations for Dover International Speedway, said at the Eastern Motorsport Press Association convention Saturday. "It will serve as a meeting place and a chance for race fans to get together before making their way inside the track."
Michael Tatoian, executive vice president of Dover Motorsports Inc., said the Monster Monument is among several steps in the second phase of the speedway's multiyear, multimillion-dollar capital improvement project. The first phase was completed before the 2007 race season and included a new skybox complex and an expansion of the infield media center.
"The Monster Monument will create instant recognition for the racetrack and will also honor all of the past drivers that have conquered the Monster Mile," Tatoian said. "Especially coinciding with Dover's 40th anniversary, it is a great way to recognize all of the great drivers that have been able to survive Dover and win."
The Monster Monument will be made of fiberglass and will stand nearly five stories tall. It will loom over Victory Plaza, which will be located outside the fourth turn grandstands.
The 60-foot round base of the monument will serve as a tribute to the Dover race winners and legendary drivers who have made their mark at the high-banked, one-mile oval. It will include a chronological listing of Dover winners by race and series.
Richard Petty and Bobby Allison, each with seven career victories at Dover, will be the first drivers honored at the monument. Details regarding the special dedications and ceremonies will be announced prior to the spring race weekend. The Monster Monument is under development at ACI Composites Inc., in Lancaster, Pa. The structure will be assembled at the speedway in April. Dover's Kent Construction will be responsible for all other on-site construction. MORE |

| | Resident SuperHero! | | | | | Re: Nascar 2008 Here we are less than a week away from the 50th running of the Daytona 500 and the start of the 2008 Sprint Cup season and already we have had a preview of what is to come from watching Friday's and Saturday's night events.
A couple of things struck me as I watched the Bud Shootout on Saturday and the Shootout practice Friday and that was Blaney looked really strong, Penske looked flat and Gibbs Racing was awesome with a Toyota.
With that said, I am going to go out on a limb and post a few predictions for the season. Rookie of the Year: There is a lot of open-wheel talent in the rookie pool this year. You have Patrick Carpentier, Jacques Villeneuve, Sam Hornish Jr., and Dario Franchitti. With the exception of Hornish, none of the above have guaranteed starting positions at the begining of the year. You also have to throw Regan Smith into the mix for Rookie of the Year. That all said, I think that Hornish will walk away with the Rookie of the year Title. The Chase: Only 12 teams can make the chase and with those 12 spots they will be filled by Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon, Johnson, Kyle Busch, Hamlin, Stewart, Edwards, Truex, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Harvick and Bowyer. The Champion: Everyone would love to see Junior win a Championship and get that monkey off his back. Everyone would love to see Junior win a Championship with Hendrick and in turn send a major message to DEI that he is a Champion. In reality, I see the Championship coming down to a tight race between Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. Ultimately I see Jeff Gordon as the 2008 Sprint Cup Champion. Daytona winner: Kevin Harvick repeats as winner but watch Dave Blaney. I have a feeling about him. He always runs well at the super speedways and he was fast Saturday night.
To quote Darrell Waltrip - "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity! Let's go racing boys!!!!" |

Now it's not a "bribe" or anything, it's just I don't want Jeff to win another Championship

| | Resident SuperHero! | | | | | Re: Nascar 2008 Stewart, Ku. Busch placed on probation for six races DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has placed drivers Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch on probation for the first six races of the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season, a result of their on-track altercations Friday during practice for the Budweiser Shootout.
Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Toyota and Busch, driver of the No. 2 Dodge, violated Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing; altercation with another competitor) of the NASCAR rule book.
The probations start Wednesday, as practice begins for the season-opening Daytona 500.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said the drivers were disciplined solely for the on-track portion of their clash, when the drivers deliberately used their cars as battering rams. MORE | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Green Lantern For This Useful Post: | |
