PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Donte' Stallworth will be catching passes from Tom Brady instead of Donovan McNabb next year.
Stallworth and the New England Patriots agreed Sunday on a multiyear contract. The deal was confirmed to The Associated Press by a person familiar with negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
ESPN.com reported Stallworth's contract could be worth $33.1 million over six years, including a guaranteed $3.6 million for 2007.
Stallworth leaves the Philadelphia Eagles after one season in which he caught 38 passes for 725 yards and five touchdowns in 12 regular-season games. He also had six catches for 141 yards and two scores in two playoff games.
The 28-year-old Stallworth played four years in New Orleans after being selected in the first round in the 2002 NFL draft. He has 233 career receptions for 3,516 yards and 28 TDs in 68 games.
Stallworth's departure leaves a huge void in Philadelphia's passing game. He gives Brady and the Patriots a legitimate deep threat with gamebreaking skills. Reche Caldwell led New England with 61 catches for 760 yards and four TDs last season. No other player had more than 49 catches for the Patriots, who traded away Deion Branch after a contract dispute last year.
New England, which lost to Indianapolis in the AFC championship game, has been quite active in free agency, signing linebacker Adalius Thomas, kick returner/receiver Wes Welker, tight end Kyle Brady and backup running back Sammy Morris. Meanwhile, the Eagles have been quiet. They've re-signed three of their own free agents and added wideout/returner Bethel Johnson. The NFC East champions lost valuable backup quarterback Jeff Garcia (Tampa Bay), nickel cornerback Rod Hood (Arizona) and former Pro Bowl strong safety Michael Lewis (San Francisco). |

My Mood: | | So what players are actually going to be on the Eagles next year??? They are letting good prospects go for players that have almost reached the end of their careers. I am a die hard fan and always will be, but I have to wonder who is taking care of business while Andy is on his "leave" |

Angelo Cataldi, the WIP (610) morning host who led the boos against Donovan McNabb when the Eagles drafted him in 1999, showed up for dinner at the Water Works restaurant off Kelly Drive two weeks ago with his wife, Gail; the show's Rhea Hughes, and Hughes' husband, Joseph. In came McNabb and his family, passing Cataldi and Hughes on their way to another dining room. Cataldi says he and tablemates debated sending over a round of drinks - when owner Michael Karloutsos told him, "Mr. McNabb wants to buy you a round." "Oh, did we look like idiots," Cataldi says, adding that debate then ensued over how to thank him. Cataldi went over to McNabb's table. "He was very much a gentleman," says Cataldi, "and I was Barney Fife, stammering and getting tongue-tied." Hughes asked management what the McNabbs were drinking. It was a "nice champagne," says Cataldi - $210 a bottle. "Rhea pays for the whole thing herself, but even that's not enough. She wrote them a note: 'Thanks for keeping us employed.' " Cataldi says he was later told that McNabb asked: "What does that mean?" "We couldn't have screwed this up any more than we did," says Cataldi. "I felt like the biggest social moron that ever walked the earth."

My Mood: | | | Re: eagles The Eagles could be great but...McNabb isn't a quarterback, he is a runningback that can throw! Andy was the quarterback coach in Greenbay when Brett Favre (anyone remember him) was in his prime. Eagles would be great if Andy had an orthodox QB under center and some quality receivers spread wide that could catch the ball and then run with it.
The Eagles could be great but...we fail to draft anyone in the speciality position area with some type of promise. How about we get a power runner and move Westbrook to slot or use him like N.O. uses Bush.
The Eagles could be great but...they are babying a mediocre QB qho makes his best moves on a chunky soup commercial. It would be cool if we had good receivers but when you have a bad QB and bad supporting cast then you have issues.
What to do...what to do...I don't know, they pay folks millions to decide how to change or stay the course, it's free to sit at my desk and make fun of the dumb decisions they make. |

Eagles sign DT Reagor to 3-year deal
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Defensive tackle Montae Reagor signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.
Reagor spent the last four years with the Indianapolis Colts. He started the first five games last season before suffering season-ending facial injuries in a car accident that occurred en route to the team's game against the Washington Redskins on Oct. 22. He was released by the Colts earlier this month.
In the 2004 and 2005 season, Reagor recorded a combined 10 1/2 sacks, fourth in the league among defensive tackles for that period. Drafted by Denver in the second round in 1999, Reagor spent his first four seasons as a backup with the Broncos before signing with the Colts in 2003. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
