As per usual, I'm gonna go down to DelPark and bet a few trifectas on the race.
6, to be exact. I'll lay a $2 bet on the 6 trifecta combos of the 3 horses I think have the best shot.
Only thing is, I have no idea this year of which horses are any good.
Any racing fans out there who have a solid top 3? |

I bet by the horses' names & "stories"... unfortunately, I won't hear any of those "feel good stories" until just before post-time today... You know, the horse who was born during a hurricane, to a mare who had 3 legs, and the owner was going to put him down, but saw that "something special" in his eye.... and the rest is history...

I really liked Visionaire.
Except all he really saw was a bunch of other horses asses the entire race.
Nothing too visionary about that. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Kid Lester For This Useful Post: | |

My Mood: | | | Re: Derby Picks I am a huge racing fan, my Ex owned and raced horses. I always bet on the local horses in the Derby. I had 20 to win on eight belles. It was horrible, I blame the jockey, if you watch the replays you can see where she stumbled, he should have pulled her back and stopped. I hope that kid never rides again. |

My Mood: | | | Re: Derby Picks Well, the thing about controlling an 1800 pound animal with just your legs and a strap of leather is that if you need something done RIGHT NOW, it's not gonna happen.
You can't stop a 1800 pound racehorse going 45 mph on a dime. They don't have brakes.
What happened isn't the jockey's fault. Horses have very fragile legs. Racehorses legs especially are put under A LOT of stress. Plus, they pump them up with all kinds of legal performance improving crap.
Lasix is the biggest of these, and it leaches calcium out of their bones. It's been proven to reduce bone density.
It's not just a coincidence that this happened to Eight Belles, Smarty Jones, and Barbaro.
The person at fault is the person who put these animals with fragile bones that get pounded on every day on something proven to reduce bone density.
Short-term gain. Long term loss. That's what horse racing is all about.
