Charter of Wilmington

As some of you here know, my daughter is a soccer goalie. Last year she was the starting (read, only) goalie for the JV team at Charter.

This year, the coach put her on the Varsity team. Yay! right? Not.

He's managed to import another kid, from another school to play for the Varsity soccer team. This girl is not a better goalie, yet she's starting. This guy is an ass, so I'm pretty sure he promised her the world to get her on the team. In fact, my daughter was benched for the entire game yesterday.

My problem, I want to ask the coach if this is what he intends for the entire season. Is my kid going to ride the bench for the season, while this girl plays the entire game? My kid doesn't even want me to ask the question. She, and I would rather see her dropped back to JV as the starter, where she at least gets to play. Steph doesn't even want me to talk to him.

What would you do?

On a side note: The game yesterday was against AI. After Charter won, 2 - 1, and the girls were doing their cool down, the AI spectators were booing them! How's that for class?!

Re: Charter of Wilmington

Apparently the coach thinks this "new" girl is a better goalie than your kid. Unless the coach owes the new girl's parents a favor or something. She only gave up one goal...give her a chance. Maybe the coach is sitting your daughter so she gets pissed off and improves her game. The best thing (IMHO) is for your daughter to use this time to strengthen her own game and outplay the "new" kid every chance she gets.

Real athletes don't get mad, they get better!!

Re: Charter of Wilmington

Naaah Ace, she's let in, between scrimmages and games,7 goals. My kid has let one in. And in order to outplay the other kid, she has to be played, can't do it on the bench.

they play what 1 or 2 games a week and practice the other days. I think she has ample time to out play this new kid. Is anyone else complaining about the switch or just you? Could your opinion of the goalie be biased because you actually come out to see your child play?

They play 3 - 4 games per week. Her former team mates from JV are complaining, not just me. And my opinion may be biased because she's mine, I'd be lying if I said no. But my kid is honestly a better goalie. She's more aggressive, has a better punt and throwing arm, not to mention the fact that she played 20 minutes of a game with a broken hand.

There have been issues with this coach in the past. Ferinstance. They have a girls highschool summer league. Last year, he didn't invite any of the JV players to join his team. Instead, he went outside of the school and used girls from other schools, including this goalie. 3/4 of the games, he didn't have enough players and had to forfeit those games.
