It depends, you have to be more specific when analyzing these things. Do you mean how old were they when they actually stopped believing in Santa Clause? Or, do you mean how old were they when they could no longer convince (maintaining a straight face all the while) their parents that they still believed?

Regards,

Joe Walther

lol Joe, so true!!! My boys were probably around 11 and 12 when I could no longer believe they believed it. Actually, no, that was when they could no longer believe that I believed they believed it, thats when it truly ends, lol

Alas, Santa died when Steph was around 10. Someone in school told her, and I didn't deny it.

That would be me. Besides whose lap do you think you sit on when you are talking to Santa about what you want for Christmas?

My kids never believed. I think it is an awful lie to tell. First how can they ever fully believe and trust in God and Jesus if for their whole kid lives they were "lied to"? If they find out at 10 Santa is a joke what's to keep them from wondering when they are 30 they won't find out Jesus is a joke told to them by their elders? How can they ever trust us as parents if they discover such a lie? Sorry to be a wet blanket to some, but it is a very strong belief in my heart. PS same thing for the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy. Sure we have pictures of these characters during their seasons but they were handled as "stories" like the 3 little bears, etc

Damn, lighten up. As a kid I was disappointed when I found out. But looking back it was nothing more than my parents trying to put a little magic in the season, I got over it and would believe again if I could to get some of that magic back. If a kid grows up without trust in you because you "lied" about St. Nick, they haven't grown up yet. If they don't trust you (not you,in general) it's for other reasons. So I take it you don't tell the little ones about the three little bears either?

My son heard a DJ on the radio say that Santa doesn't exist. My husband and I agreed to come clean with him, he was around 10. My 8 yr still believes. Now the big brother will get the little brother to ask for stuff so he doesn't have too!

If an old fat guy broke in my house. He would get robbed and his ass kicked before the cops showed up.

Some of my fondest memories as a child are centered around Christmas and believing in Santa Clause. It was a magical time for my brother and I.

If I were to ever say that I had any regret surrounding it, it would be that I couldn't have kept the belief going longer (I pretty much figured it out myself).
When I did finally come to terms with it, the LAST thing that would have entered my mind would be that I was lied to.
Kids have the rest of their lives as adults to deal with life's realities.

I would like to thank my parents for letting me dream and be a child.

I can only hope that I will do as good a job when I have children of my own.
I would think that the closest way that I could ever attempt to relive the magic is the see the excitement and joy in my children's eyes.
Let the kids be kids.

My oldest, now 12, started to question about 3 years ago and I was able to hold him off for maybe a year. Last year he came clean to me that he did not believe.

DD and DS2 are 8 and 6 and I want them to hold onto this for as long as possible. I love the look on their faces, the magic, the joy of Santa. Just don't ask DD to sit on Santa's lap. She has not done that since she was 3 weeks old!

I think that Santa is one of the best parts of Christmas. I think if a young child is robbed of believing in Santa they are being robbed of learning about the magic of Christmas. I would be pissed if an adult told my child there is no Santa!!!

My sister is 12 and just stopped believing last year and I don't think she felt lied to in the least bit.
