After spending a few brief moments over at "the other" online forum, I am once again reminded of how fortunate we are to have TalkDelaware.

The 175 comments on the election so far vary from simply mean spirited to downright hateful and vindictive.

Not so here, I am happy to say.

I wish all of us were here.

Re: Obama elected 44th prez

I was wondering what the spirit would be in the building today. I have to say I am really impressed at the number of students who knew the issues, watched closely, and, even though they aren't old enough to vote, stayed up to watch the results. We ended up having a discussion about it in my advisory group (about 15 kids) and only 4 looked bored silly. The others were either actively involved in the discussion or at least paying close attention.

Re: Obama elected 44th prez

he was not my choice by a long shot. mccain was not my first (or third) choice either, but i will support Obama.
but to be honest, who is in the white house has no effect on me (besides disagreeing with this policy or that policy) but it does not matter to me because i always take care of myself and mine no matter who is at the helm. i want nothing from the federal government except to provide a strong military and enforce the constitution. other than that, they can leave me alone.

Everybody thinks he is going to change the world in 6 months. I give it 2-3 years before he brings any troops back or we start to see changes.

Exclamation Re: Obama elected 44th prez

This dude just captured the Holy Grail in American Politics. In our 232 years as a nation few have done the same before him, see the title of this thread for reference, and as much as I wasn't for him during this campaign and before this election, what's done is done.

The system that we use to elect our President is what it is, it's ages old and he not only garnered the majority of votes nationwide but he made the connection where it counts in the Electoral College. For all intents and purposes, and in every way that matters the people have spoken. I'm one of the 55million, give or take, that wanted no parts of an Obama Presidency but at the end of the day I wasn't on the side that made the call, that's the way it goes, always has, and this dude deserves his shot at it ...

Re: Obama elected 44th prez

I feel it's going to get worse before it gets better, but I wonder if the other way it wouldnt have gotten better before it got worse. I really don't know.

I didnt really care for either candidate when this whole thing started. I was saying some very uneducated things. I will say one thing about this election, it has made me a much more attentive person when it comes to electing our leaders. It's made me want to know more instead of just going with a specific party, about their ideals, about their ideas and about what may or may not be accomplished about putting a certain person in office. I'm not 100% educated about politics yet, but this election has been the first to light the fire for me, and I have a feeling millions of other Americans can say the same thing.

Re: Obama elected 44th prez

My theroy was i didnt know what to make of either canidate, but i know i wanted some one to bring the country together and begin the process of putting us back on top again, we as americans are in crisis and that needs to be addressed , if OBama can take the first step in doing so then he has my support,it wont be overnight and may even take 2 terms but americans are crying out loud for help all over and its time for washington to hear it.
