My Mood: | | | ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront My sister found the website for the Riverfront Outlets. They listed all the stores that were there,,, so we ventured down there.... We thought this is great it's not crowded. So we started walking around and found there was only 3 (yes I said 3) stores open. Bali, Coldwater Creek and Branded Shoes.
Someone needs to update the website. The store employees said they heard from many people that they found the info on a website and came to shop. There was also a tour bus in the parking lot,,,, I bet they were disappointed. I know we were. We went to lunch at Timothy's, It was a terrific lunch. We will go there again.

My Mood: | | | Re: ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront $210 million dollars went into that project - city and state money. Pettinaro and the other developers that owned the land down there are the only ones who made out in the deal. They wanted to emulate Baltimore's inner harbor, so they built a stadium (OK, the Blue Rocks are a success!)...then they built a museum. The museum failed so they converted it to a convention/wedding reception center. They have a number of successful restaurants...Timothy's being one, although the last few times I've been there I was disappointed...Kahunaville was a draw, but an outdoor concert venue will not succeed with residences so close by. The problem is, the restaurants only took business away from other city establishments. Unless they get an EASY access from Market Street and I95, the place will just deteriorate. When Lands End and Vanity Fair pulled out, it put the word out to all other outlet-oriented retailers that you can't make money there. Maybe a Forman Mills would be successful. But there needs to be more there to get people down there.

Last rumors I heard, they were going to put a grocery store down there. Still waiting.
It's a shame really, it was a nice place to go in the late afternoon/early evening.

My Mood: | | | Re: ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront It really does, there was room for at least 120 retail stores and there were only 3,, I did buy a few things cuz the price was right. My sister and I did the Frederick MD outlets back in Nov. They were terrific, we wanted to see if these were like that and with no sales tax it would have been terrific |

My Mood: | | | Re: ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront I have ZERO interest in going to this sad little strip mall along the waterfront. I've seen it being built. I've driven "past" it to see what stores are there... but that's it. You couldn't pay me to shop there.
It's like a bad tourist trap. Tourists might go there, and have a bad time.
And despite those huge condos being there, and the shops, I still consider that part of town "bad" and worth avoiding. I drive past it on 13 going to New Castle almost daily. All I can do is laugh when I see groups of people walking around there and think "oh, look. More victims for Wilmington to claim."

| | | Re: ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront Back in 2000, when I was first here in DE for grad school, I remember going to Shipyard Shops with a friend and being able to get quite a few deals. There were empty spaces even then, but lots of shops open and with places like L.L.Bean, you could get some good deals.
I was last down there a month ago because I specifically wanted something from Coldwater Creek, and I was already up in Wilmington. The place is like a ghost town now. It's a shame. |

My Mood: | | | Re: ShipYard Shops on the Riverfront I think the place will spruce up once more people visit that area. The condos may help, but the condos may flop as well. I doubt the latter. Just more people need to be in that area for it to be profitable for businesses there. Kahuna was a prime example of how the waterfront could flourish under the right circumstances.
Honestly. I wish the riverfront catered to the much needed night life of Wilmington.
