Our Trip to DC Need suggestions please

We are taking our boss to DC this Saturday to see the WWII memorial. Were going to take the train but I think driving is a better idea. Any suggestions on parking, restaurants, other sites?
He is a WWII Vet Marine and has not seen the memorial yet. Hope and I have not been there for many years. Max told us to park and take cabs. Our boss is 85 but in Very good shape but I still worry about him getting tired. Who am I kidding I will probably get tired before him.
Thanks in advance
Naomi

Driving in is far batter, you're not tied to anything or any other way of getting back when you're ready. Parking is plentiful, expect to pay around $20, parking garages are all over ...

Other sites, just look around - it's the Nation's Capital !

naomi you can always park at a metro stop and take the metro in to town. they have a stop about a block from the WW II memorial. it is alot easier.

Re: Our Trip to DC Need suggestions please

Mo is right drive in esp on the weekend since the only train you can take is Amtrak , there is parking by the park down there (its free ) its a little hike (about 1/2 mile) to the WWII Memorial but on your way you can see the Korean War Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.

Park in the area I have my half ass circle

Re: Our Trip to DC Need suggestions please

It's quite possible that it's me, but I found it very difficult to find my way around DC in my car. I found The Metro much easier.

Re: Our Trip to DC Need suggestions please

Naomi, I usually drink (and eat!) at the Capitol City brew pub when I"m down there, next to Union Station. Nothing fancy though. decent food, good beer. no idea about the wine. sorry.

I have to make plans to go see that memorial. Also want to check out the D-Day museum in New Orleans (hopefully it's still there).

Re: Our Trip to DC Need suggestions please

We usually drive to new Carrollton, park at the "kiss and ride" and Metro from there. Washington is all good. Smithsonian, the Air and Space museum, the new Museum of the American Indian, Natural History museum, Viet Nam Memorial, and on and on.
