We used to do a lot of community stuff in our area, but it's dropped off and the big debate at our community meetings is will events like the one your community is doing bring in a "bad element". Our older community leaders are afraid to do anything like this for fear it will attract the "wrong" kind of people. Personally I've of a mind that more community involvement is a great thing. When I was president of our local elementary PTA I tried for years to get the whole community more involved. We did accomplish some great events fro the kids, but the current PTA isn't continuing the effort. So frustrating. I've been thinking of getting more involved with our community center. I think the "Night Out" is a fabulous idea. Please let us know how it turns out. Thanks so much for the information!!

Thanks so much for the information!! | There's probably a closer one to you in Newark...I think there's one at Banning Park and another at the Iron Hill-Glasgow Park. I'm on the Northern District Advisory Council which ties to community policing...the "element" isn't going to be out with cops, politicians, firefighters, and such in the vicinity...for those that think that the "law" will be occupied at the event, it's actually a false assumption - the officers at the event are on overtime (ours are being paid by our State Senator, Cathy Cloutier - out of her own pocket)...increased patrols are actually occurring in the more "troublesome" areas. |

My Mood: | | | Re: National Night Out Thanks again Raptor. My best friend and I took our kids to the park on Rt 40. It was a very nice evening. My younger daughter got to go through a helicopter that landed in the field. With that and the great playground they have there we had a great night with the kids. Thanks for letting me know about it! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
