Born in Dover, moved to Daytona at age 7, Baltimore at age 20, back to Dover at age 21, Lewes at 30, been here ever since. raising 3rd gen.

Not even in DE yet! Be there in about 6 weeks. Born in Corpus Christi, TX. Military Dad, later turned Academic. Lived as kid in TX, OK, CA, VA, DC, La. As an adult in TX, Colorado, many years in Austin, TX and then to Vilnius, Lithuania and now in London. So now trying to "come home" to the Mid-Atlantic.

but Dear Heart isn't a native either. I know he was born in CA and lived in both OK and PA, but I'm not sure where else (Navy Dad).

This is scary (like Scary Spice!)...but to understand the Delawarian, you need to look at the lineage....Dad was born/raised in Essington (you think we have aircraft noise?)...corner house, I remember my Grandfather removing the head of a chicken and all of us cousins chasing it until the spasms ended...you ever chase a chicken without its head? Mom was born either on 4th St or Franklin St...moonshiners lived next door in both locations...oh, but this is about me...

I'm 2nd generation Irish/Slovic/German/English Delmarvasepa (Delaware-Maryland-Virginia-SouthEastern Pennsylvania) Native. My great grandparents were children of immigrants. We're Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies fans - who are the 76ers?...we love Cheesesteaks, Italian Hoagies, Herr's chips, Tastycakes, and Chester is a place to drive quickly through, not a gambling destination!

Grotto Pizza is only good at 2am and only in Dewey. If you're hankerin' for Italian, it's Mrs. Robino's or the Del Rose. Steaks and Prime Rib only from Walter's, and every weekend it's the long trek down Rt13 to the beach, with a stop at Kirby and Halloway's in Dover for some forbidden fried pork platter. It was Lou Inerie's (I know it's mis-spelled...I don't think it's there anymore anyway) in Lewes, Angler's on the other side of the canal. Watching the Ferry with a DQ sundae. Speaking of sundae's, the Charcoal Pit either on 202 or on Maryland Ave....sorry for the distraction...Mom & Dad off to the Dinner Bell and me 'n my 'bro got $10 each to kill on the boardwalk...I always had to walk thru Ryan's Gems and Junk...never bought anything...I had top scores on the Aquaman, Ace's Wild, and Haunted Mansion pinball games for 3 straight years at Surfside Arcade! Old Pro Golf, the waterslide at the SportsCenter, seeing Jaws at Midway (and Stripes, Arthur, Alien, and Heavy Metal)...

The ride home was a stop at Helen's Sausage house (in the later years that is, before Helen's it was just the Odessa gas station for a barely edible hot dog). St. George's Bridge was scary...tall, rusty, and it has a freakin' curve in it! Once we got to the Kirkwood Hwy we were home.

Memories, how they fade so fast....

My maternal grandparents came over from Ireland and settled in Delaware (why? no clue!). Paternal grandparents came over from England and settled in Delaware by way of NYC and Baltimore. But we've been here ever since - I live in the same home my parents built in the 1950's and it's my goal to pass it onto them someday!

I did live in NJ for 2 years while working for the Trump Organization, but other than that, I'm a true-blue Delaware native!

**note: I'm actually adopted, but since I have no information whatsoever about my birth parents & their heritage, I've adopted my parents' heritage, culture & traditions as my own!
