| | | Trying to introduce myself-think I'm doing this wrong My husband and myself are looking to retire in Delaware in 2 1/2 years. We live in NC now and looking for a nice active adult community. I'm just trying to find out more about Delaware. In reading some forums, it seems that us retired people are not very welcome. I hate uncontrolled growth, but managed growth can be beneficial to all. Sounds like developments and influx of people is alarming. Are we wrong in looking at retirement in Delaware. Thanks. |

Ahh, don't move here! I personally don't like this state and wouldn't want to retire here! I love the country and if I could live there now I would!
Is there some reason in particular that makes you want to move here? If you do decide to move, I would look into the Smyrna area.

My brother lives in a nice one in Maryland but if you are settling for Delaware I will assist you in finding a good retirement community. Quote:

My Mood: | | Re: Trying to introduce myself-think I'm doing this wrong Welcome to the forum. I have to say that I'm surprised at some of the comments here ... Delaware is an awesome place to live, and I say that as a transplant from Philadelphia, been here since 1992 or there abouts. Delaware is full of great places to live, the tax base is super low, and it's a very small state so getting to places is easy, sans the traffic congestion in certain areas and at certain times of the year. There are many retirement communities in Sussex County, Delware's largest and southern most County. In any case, welcome ... I look forward to a positive exchange.

My Mood: | | | Re: Trying to introduce myself-think I'm doing this wrong Welcome to the site. The young ones are too funny. Delaware is not a bad place to retire. As M. Opaliski stated the taxes are low, tax free shopping is nice. I personally feel the property prices are a bit high. I always thought retiring near the beach would be fun but the traffic is AWFUL in season and the property prices are way high. Good luck in your decision. |
