My Mood: | | | Re: Trying to introduce myself-think I'm doing this wrong Hello Handy, and welcome to the nicest forum in DE. I have lived in DE most of my life and if you want it here is my imput. You can get a lot more bang for your buck below the canal. But I could never bring myself to move down there. DE has one of the worst highway systems in the US. If you are a mile away it will take you 15 minutes, now this is above the canal. Actually the property taxes are much lower than the surrounding states. DE when I was a kid was a pretty state but now there is not much left of the beauty. PA and MD are still pretty states with lots of open land and beautiful landscapes to view. And yes I am jealous you are close to retirement, I still have a few years and I am heading to upstate PA. |

Sounds like developments and influx of people is alarming. Are we wrong in looking at retirement in Delaware. Thanks. | |

Besides NC taxes and house prices are getting so high. If I could be nearer my kids and afford to retire here, I would. | IMO, the crime in this state is spreading to the nicer areas more and more every year. I figure by the time I retire the only good places will be southern delaware. If anyone wants to come back with the pathetic reply of "there's crime everywhere", I'll tell you what. I'll move to the country surrounded by farmland and woods and they can move to the congested areas of Delaware. After a year, we'll compare notes on the amount of crime in our respective areas.

Smryna is in New Castle County and Kent County. | A stream , a creek and forty acres does sound wonderful. You must be young. I would have liked that too, but not sure about Missouri? Maybe it's one of the few places where you can still get that much land. We are in a big house with three acres in the mountains and woods. Yes, it is beautiful, but I'm so lonely with neighbors spread out and who keep to themselves. I still haven't figured out how to read your post while I'm writing mine. Anyway, we would now like to be in an active adult community where we have neighbors and can make friends. Sussex County is looking better and better, but still worry about the land being used previously for agriculture and chickens. I quess people are not n wells in an actual community. We are on a well here which is great, as we're at 3000' almost, so have great water. But we were told about the dangerous water supply in wells anywhere an apple orchard was previously because of all the insecticides still in the land. Thanks |
