| | | Wow, scary that this happened in one of our schools. I hope the kid that was shot will be ok. How sad is it that our kids can't even go to some thing as simple as a basketball game without violence like this? It scares me more and more as my kids get older. I hope they catch who ever fired the gun. My in laws live right across the street from William Penn, I'll have to call my MIL in the morning and ask her if they heard or saw anything. Thanks for the post Chase.

| | | Just another reason for me to not want to have any kids, what is wrong with the people in this world? This sounds like another case where the parent does not care what there kid does and sure as heck did not beat them enough!

Thanks for the post Chase. Exactly... Not saying that it's 100% better, but this is why my wife and I are HIGHLY considering private schools... I'd rather work my ass off and have my daughter in a safer school environment, than have her subjected to this kind of sh*t.... Not saying ALL public schools are bad either.... I went to public my whole life and loved it..

| | | Scrappy, as my kids get older and I get to experience more types of schools and stuff with the PTA and girl scouts I've come to realize it happens every where. I used to think private or charter school was better too. I've come to the conclusion it doesn't matter. Each school or area has it's own problems. Back when I was in high school I went to AI, back then it was supposed to be one of the "best" high schools. Let me tell ya, the drugs that went around that school were unbelievable, because the kids could afford them. I only say that to illustrate my point. Private school may not have the guns, although any more even that is up in the air IMO, but there are all kinds of problems our kids will face that we never did because society is changing. What was unthinkable to us as kids and teens is more the "norm" and acceptable in society today. And until we as a society step up again and take back the RESPONSIBILITY of raising our kids and TEACH them what it means to be responsible and involved, things are just going to keep going down hill IMHO. Sorry, I'll get off the soap box now. Stuff like this just really worries me. Good luck with your daughter Scrappy, you know I'm not trying to jump on you or anything, and I know you are an awesome parent. All I'm saying is as parents we need to be more vigilant with our kids and more aware of what they and their friends and peers are doing. Not blame it on a certain school or area, to me that's a cop out. | | The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to motherof3 For This Useful Post: | | Re: Shooting at william penn high school

| | | Gun violence in our small state seems way out of hand lately. It seems like once a week someone is getting shot in Wilmington or Dover or somewhere in between. There is something inherently wrong when our youth puts no value into a human life. | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to Jessica For This Useful Post: | | Re: Shooting at william penn high school

All I'm saying is as parents we need to be more vigilant with our kids and more aware of what they and their friends and peers are doing. Not blame it on a certain school or area, to me that's a cop out. I'm not saying it has anything to do with parenting your own child... It has A LOT to do with the OTHER child... There's only so much you can do with parenting and your own children - It's when others, like in this story, that come around with guns... Personally, I don't think there's much you can teach a child when it comes to a situation like this. If someone has such a low value on life that he/she feels the need to use guns, then that person is going to do what he/she wants to do.... I can only hope that my daughter will listen to what me and my wife say as she grows up and she values the same things that we do.. Also, I'm not bashing public schools... I went to public schools my entire life and I loved it.. I had no regrets.. My wife started out in public and wound up in private/catholic or whatever it is.... I know it's going to happen no matter where you are.. Just as it has no matter on where you live.. Crime and drugs are going to happen anywhere.. Sometimes where you least expect it.. Oh yeah.. I didn't take it like you were coming down on me Mof3... I knew what you were getting at.. I didn't mean for the above to come of AT you at all.. Just so you know.. | | The Following User Says Thank You to SCRAPPY For This Useful Post: | | Re: Shooting at william penn high school

| | | This whole thing makes me feel so upset. My daughter is a Freshman at William Penn and to hear this kind of stuff it just makes me cringe. Why in the world would two girls start a fight over a boy? Now we have a trooper that is injured and uable to do her job, we have a student that is shot and who knows how he will heal. He will probably suffer from pain from this for a long time all this over a boy. It just seems so out of line, we are not in the jungle, we are not animals, why are we causing fights over boys? Presumably these are high school aged girls, they have many, many years to find men to be with, it is these same girls that will end up on the welfare rolls as single mothers from these boys they were fighting over. We need to parent our children better, teach our daughters some pride and manners. The parents of the little girls that caused this fight need to really look at the fact they are not doing their jobs! | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Leslie5410 For This Useful Post: | | Re: Shooting at william penn high school

I mean, I hate to say it, but this has been happening forever. I never fist-fought for a boy...but I definitely had words with a girl back in high school over a guy. I guess it's like a territorial thing for girls just like guys fight over girls. If I got into a physical fight, I think my parents would've killed me. Why anyone would bring a gun into everything is beyond me. And then assaulting a police officer??? unfathomable.

| | ehhh...no one fought over me either.
oh wait. I do remember a huge arguement over the phone with my ex-boyfriend and my now husband my freshman year of college. A lot of yelling and threats...but there was only so much they could do 300 miles away from each other. Might have been nice to see a brawl over me....although it probably would've been short-lived being that my DH outweighed him by about 60 pounds and was 4 inches taller. | Re: Shooting at william penn high school

| | | I can't say that I fought over a man. I hit the girl, she was out and it was over. Wasn't a fight. Stay off my man - he told you to get out of his face (he don't hit women) BAM!
Done.

drop the damn gloves and duke it out. These kids have no respect for themselves, much less any one or any other thing. I had a rifle and shotgun at age 12 and my first handgun when I was a Jr in high school, doing or even thinking about using them in that type of senerio was just not an option - times change and it seems not for the better, way too often. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
