Employees of The News Journal were evacuated from their building near New Castle shortly after 4 p.m. today when a small fire broke out.
“[There was] a fair amount of damage to our newsprint area,” News Journal Publisher Curtis Riddle said. “A number of rolls were destroyed but that’s OK.”
There will be an issue put out Tuesday, he said, adding “There is apparently no question about that.”
Several fire companies responded, quickly doused the fire and cleared smoke from the building at 950 W. Basin Road (Del. 141), near I-95.
One person was taken to the hospital to be examined, but he did not seem to be in serious condition.
Employees were allowed back inside at 5:33 p.m.
The staff is resuming work on the Tuesday edition of the newspaper.
The fire was pretty much put out by the building’s fire sprinklers, said Wilmington Manor Fire Company Chief Ronald Hopkins.
Glad everyone is ok.... Quote:
