| | | Well, we unfortunately couldn't get them last night. DH called from work and it was a 1/2 hour wait. By the time he got into the area to order, no one was picking up the phone there. He called 12 times....and passed the Claymont location and the parking lot was completely jammed. So, we are going to mail in a donation instead.

I'm glad they did so well. This was a wonderful thing they did. I wish the whole world could follow their example. Makes me wanna be a just little more aware of what I could possibly do to help another person.

| | | Thanks for the pictures Curly. It brings tears to my eyes every time I think about that poor little girl losing her mom. Jakes fundraiser was awesome and I'm so glad to see our community rise up in support of her and the family. But that little girl will never be the same again and it just breaks my heart. I hope they prosecute the shit that killed Michelle with everything they can think of. | Re: Fallen Firefighter/EMT

I stopped by the Jake's located on Philadelphia Pike around 12:30. The place was packed as was the parking lot. I didn't have the time to stay; so I just dropped my donation in the "boot" and left.
Words are always inadequate at times like these. People try so desperately to say things that comfort. But sometimes all we can do is bow our heads in silent contemplation.
This young woman paid the ultimate price in the highest tradition of public service. Some have said that she gave her life to help save others.
Given the abundance of love in her life and all that she had to live for, I don't like to think of her as "giving" her life. Her life was taken.
I found a poem titled A Fireman's Prayer. As far as I can determine, the author is anonymous. I've included it below. But, I did change a couple of the lines to comply more appropriately with the times.
I did this because firefighting is no longer the sole domain of men. To this end I reworded some of the passages.
I changed the title to: A Firefighter's Prayer. I also changed all of the gender references from specific to non-specific.
Here is the poem. When I am called to duty, God,
Whenever flames may rage, Give me strength to save some life, Help me embrace a little child From the horror of that fate. And hear the weakest shout, And quickly and efficiently I want to fill my calling And to give the best in me To guard all of my neighbors And protect their property. And if, according to my fate, Please bless with your protecting My children and my spouse.
Well done, Michele... well done. Your watch is ended; you stand relieved.
Regards,

| | | More money is still coming in. This has been a huge success. A very sad business, but it is so nice to know that people care so much. Now if we can just get more people to drive carefully when we are out there.... | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Crabby For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
