New Castle County police and federal agents conducted a crime sweep early this morning at Lexington Green apartments in Bear, where officers rounded up 10 suspects, some whom were sleeping, and led them handcuffed into a waiting van.
Two of the suspects were women targeted by agents from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for misusing their Section 8 housing vouchers, which pay a portion of rent.
Voucher holders must complete yearly certification that require them to list everyone living in the household and the total income. Convicted drug dealers, sex offenders and violent felons cannot receive the vouchers.
A five-month investigation revealed the two women were allowing men to live with them who had been arrested recently on drug and weapons offenses. The women would have been ineligible for the vouchers had they listed the men on the certifying documents, officials said. READ MORE....

| | | Years ago I use to live in the Hunt Club Townhouses in Princeton Woods and I LOVED it back there. Before living there I lived at the Village of Canterbury Apartments and use to enjoy going to Deer's Market and the Movie rental place next to what was then the Soft Rock Cafe. Then came Lexington Green.....
After a couple of years after the Lexington Green folks settled in I decided it was time to move.
I am not going to put down the place but I am going to say that things were not the same once that apartment complex came to the area.

| | | These places are set up to help people until they get well enough on their feet to enable to them to find someplace else.
I used to live low income apartments. For every drug dealer, trouble maker and system-taking-advantage-of-er, there was someone else who actually used it for it's purpose. They'd come in, save money, get back on their feet, and get out.
Too bad there's no way to discern one from the other.
Then there were the people who just stayed anyway. After a year, you can make as much money as you want, that's the RULE in the apartments I was in. If you're poverty level for the first year, then Jan 1 in the second year, you find a job making five times as much, you don't have to leave. People would move in, find better jobs etc, and instead of saving money, they'd go buy expensive electronics, or loaded down new cars. And stay.
There need to be a time limit. I'd say 5 years is enough to find a decent job, or go back to school, even night school.
I could revamp the entire welfare system if they'd let me, lol.
