I bring this up cause on Omegle yesterday i chatted with a dude from Canada for like a hour, he was real cool, and he schooled me kind of on how it is where he lived, in montreal, quebec.
It sounded real cool, free daycare, free healthcare, clean, nice people....other then they mostly in that area speak french and so did he, he got a good razzing for being a frenchy too...lol
What would be the pro's and con's of moving and living in Canada? I don't need "oh they are socialist blah blah" that has no meaning to me, i mean specifically why is America better then Canada?

| | | <insert rant about socialist stuff here>
Anyway - we go to Canada every year for a vacation. My husband attends a convention in Ottawa in May and we started going along. We are big time into educational trips and Ottawa is AWESOME for that. You can walk right up to Parliament without much fuss. The city is clean, walkable and there is a LOT to do.
I really love Ottawa. Not a fan of the healthcare, gun restrictions, etc -- but I love to visit.
Niagara is awesome, too - but WAY touristy.

| | I love Canada...i go there at least 2-3 times a year for business and pleasure.
i love the clean streets, natural beauty and the generally open and friendly nature of the canadian people. no place is perfect and they do have parts of their cities that resemble the south bronx.... but every city has that.
the canadian people are very friendly like i said- for the most part. sometimes the frogs in quebec can get a little snotty if you do not parlez-vous francais. but other than that-
not a fan of the high taxes...which is why they have free healthcare and whatnot.
and they have good beer up there too. besides the obvious- molson, labatt's, moosehead, etc... there are several other regional beers up there that are top notch.... Alexander Keith's, Upper Canada, Millstone, Laurentide, etc etc.
(you KNOW i just had to mention the beer !!!)

I am taxed, as a whole, from my check at like 30% I an unsure of the tax percentages but let me just say this. The difference
between Canada and USA is, no matter who pays higher taxes, countries
like Canada are able to give the people some return on their tax dollar.
Like healthcare, etc etc. In America, there is too much waste. I don't mind
paying taxes if I am receiving a product. Of all the people I know and have
meet in Europe and in Canada (where I have relatives btw), none of them,
NONE, ever bitch about the taxes they pay.
Our government is just too big and f*cked up to figure out how to spend
tax dollars wisely. I hate to use cliches, but the red tape is going to
strangle us all one day.

| | | Taxes in most Canadian provinces are 3-4% higher than here in the US. That's just an average, it all depends on your income and family status. In return, our Northern Neighbors enjoy a higher life expectancies and lower teen pregnancy, obesity and infant mortality rates - all while spending less per person on healthcare than we spend here in the United States.
When you factor in what's taken out of your pay for health insurance, and you've pretty much made up for that 4% difference. I'd gladly give up a couple of coffees per month to have a higher quality of living nationwide. | | The Following 6 Users Say Thank You to Jessica For This Useful Post:

| | Ya'll are a bunch of pansies, I go to Canada BECAUSE it's cold.
One reason Canada is better than the US?
Baffin Island, ches!
Serious snow days.
The people have amusing accents.
And they don't have to pour their money into a huge military, because the we won't let Russia take it over. How cool is that? | | The Following User Says Thank You to Pythoness For This Useful Post:

| | | I don't think that any one country is "better" than another, unless you're talking about really ridiculous dictatorships/communist countries like China or Saudi Arabia. I think it's a matter of what you're used to. If you were born in Canada or the U.K. and lived there all your life, it's likely you think Canada is better than the U.S., and vice versa.
Canada can't be THAT bad for this reason alone: We don't have a huge problem with Canadians entering the U.S. illegally. While it certainly happens, it doesn't happen anywhere near often enough for people to even consider Canada when talking about illegal immigration. Illegal Canadians (and illegal Englishmen, Irishmen, etc.) are a drop in the bucket.
I don't think I'd want to live in Canada; it's too cold. I don't even like the winters here, and Canada makes this place look like Hawaii. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to trothaar For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
