Priceline

Has anyone used Priceline to get a cheap price on a hotel room? I need to be in DC next month and the hotel that I want to stay in is rather pricey - aren't they all!! I keep seeing those commericals that you can try and get 50% off of a hotel room. When I went on to priceline it looks like once you request the hotel and the price you have to keep it. Maybe I just don't understand so I was wondering if anyone here ever tried it before. Thanks!!

Re: Priceline

I used to use Priceline ALL THE TIME for plane tickets and hotels.

Here's what you do:

First of all, you cannot lock in a particular hotel. You can only select an area, and what level hotel (how many stars) you want.

If you select a 5 star hotel in downtown DC and name your price...say $100 per night...the first 5 star rated hotel that snaps up your offer is where you're going to stay. And the offer is final. So be sure to only select a 4 or 5 star hotel.

I never got burned on Priceline. In fact, I ended up getting great rates on some pretty interesting places...a lot of them being hotels I never would have even thought to call because they were so far out of my price range without Priceline.

Re: Priceline

My husband and I used Priceline a couple of years ago on a trip to DC, and ended up with a room in the Hilton on DuPont Circle for under $90 a night.

It was well worth it.

Re: Priceline

Is it better to wait until right before you go or can I do it now a month out?

Re: Priceline

Can't hurt to try now.

As your event nears, it will become more imperative for the hotels to fill unsold rooms, so you MIGHT not get what you're looking for yet.

Re: Priceline

Thanks. I think I'll make a reservation at a cheaper hotel and then try priceline as it gets closer. I can always cancel the first reservation.
