Cool Men and House Cleaning

As I was cleaning the house this morning (alone I might add as my wife went out with friends to Borders) I got to wondering about how the roles of men and women have changed. It used to be that you would never find a man working around the house doing the house cleaning. That was the womans job. Now it seems that more and more men are sharing in the chores of helping to clean the house. I am sure I am not alone in this. I am sure that it is more common than I think. Is there still men out there that flat out refuse to do any cleaning inside the home? Is there any men that do all the cleaning in the home?

I won't do all the cleaning but I will vacuum, scrub down countertops, mop the floor, etc.... I hate cleaning the bathroom. Is there anything I won't clean? I don't think so. Being that it is my house I guess I have a responsibility/duty to clean everything. I was just wondering what the other men out there do around the inside of the house.

As for me, I just wonder what single men who feel that it's a woman's job to clean the house do.

Re: Men and House Cleaning

Around our house I do most of the domestic things, mainly because I like doing them but also because I work from home and it's just easier that way, I guess. I thoroughly enjoy being domestic, though (don't take that to mean i'm the "woman" in my relationship...we're both men ) and there's very little around the house I won't do......except kill bugs. That is STRICTLY his role. And i've had to wait upwards of 8 hours for him to get home before i'd even consider going near a room that was occupied by some many-legged creature.

The kitchen's my favorite room - both for cooking and for cleaning. Bathrooms aren't bad, bath TUBS are the worst. Oh, and we have hardwood floors and a sheddy dog so I find myself sweeping a lot, which I also hate.

Re: Men and House Cleaning

When I was single, I had a service take care of cleaning/housework...then, when I got married, WE had a service to take care of cleaning/housework...then, we adopted dogs, and my wife decided that the service folks would do something dumb like let the dogs out, so we split the cleaning/housework....kitchens and bathrooms are mine, the rest of the house is hers....

Sheddy dog.. dude get yourself a Furminator. They're expensive but well worth it. I've got a double-coated breed (Sheddy to the sheddiest extreme) and I haven't had the problem with loose hair on him that I've had in past shedding seasons.

My second favorite grooming tool is a Zoom Groom - a rubber knobby brush sort of like a curry for dogs. That pulls out a lot of loose hair and you can use it in the tub when bathing or on the dry dog. Dogs usually love being groomed with a Zoom Groom, too, it must feel like a many fingered massage.

Exclamation Re: Men and House Cleaning

I handle the dishes and the trash as a regular chore. I'm not opposed to getting involved with other chores either, I have plenty of paper and pens to make lists for the kids. Plus, as my contribution to houselod chores I purchased all of the tools and supplies, e.g., the vacuums, the cleaners, etc ... and I fix what needs fixing.

Re: Men and House Cleaning

My hubby helps out alot in the household chores. I wish I could do more. But with a bad back and neck it is hard to do alot of the work. I feel guilty actually having to have him do alot of the work. I try to make up for it in other areas though. I do all the cooking and make sure he has a good meal all the time. I do what I can and thats the best that I can do.
