| | I know celeberties are famous for strange or unique kids names but recently there has been a few births in my family and while I like the names, they are definately a little unique.
So what names of children do you know (or have) that might be a little strange or unique. It can even be your name or SO's name or middle name... it might not be so much as strange as and old name that makes it uncommon.
The recent names in my family are:
Alexis Paige (she's going to be 3 in May)
Alannah Nevaeh (Heaven backwards) (she is only 4 months old)
Aaliyah Swarley (she was born at 29 weeks and is now a month old )
Not so recent:
Cashmera (my cousin pronounced cashmere with an a)
Onnya (Cashys sister prounonced On - Ya)
Jan Daryl (thier brother)
Now in defense of my aunt her name was Michalene and supposedly those are Polish names and she was Polish. And I was always told Jan is John in Polish. <-- aunt through marriage
I also have a great aunt whose name was Thomasina (tom-a-sina) <-- yes I am part Italian.
I have an Aunt Johnny too (no lie, her father wanted a boy!) <---aunt through marriage
* I edited this to add my daugthers name is Delaney Elizabeth and recently I have had many people tell me that Delaney is a unique name. Most had heard of Laney or Lane... but not Delaney. Go figure. lol

When I named my daughter Makayla, not very many people had that name... now you hear it all over the place, I think it is actually number 19 on top girl names for 2008.
Makayla rarely ever has had to deal with someone in her class or team with the same name as her and usually when they do it is spelled differently.
As for my other one... Chase picked Jordan, most people think she is a boy when I talk about her, I have only come across a handful of girls with the name Jordan (one of them being the person Chase got the name from).
I think it is so dumb when people who name their kids some of the most popular names in the country accuse others of copying them... it's like you knew that name was popular so if you didn't want anyone else to copy you then why did you pick that name.

| | | My oldest is Cailin (pronounced Kay-lynn) A lot of people call her Caitlin, drives me nuts. Her name is Gaelic and means little girl. My younger daughter is Colleen and is Irish version of Cailin. I have an Aunt Michiele (pronounced Michael) and my best friends daughter is Ixel (pronounced E-shell) she is named after the Mayan moon goddess. Those are the only "odd" names I can think of.

| | I am not real fond of the "out there" names. you know like Moon Zappa Ang. we love the name Jordon for a girl. If we would have had a daughter she would have been Melissa Jordon. Hell even out kids (cats) have people names. In order of age and yes there will be a test later. Giovanni Carlucchi Puchini Guido Dominick Antonius Cornelius Mariah Rochelle Antonio Nero Demetris Damian Alexander Savannah Rose Maxwell Augustus Aristotle Trinity "Caesar"Carmella Alexandria Natasha Ashia "Karina" Yes we did join the crazy cat ladies club in facebook | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to Naomi For This Useful Post: | | | |

| | | My grandmother called me “Summerrain” from the time I could walk. I would hit the door as soon as a storm would roll in. Her pronunciation is closer to this (Cherokee): go-ge-yi a-ga-s. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Summerrain For This Useful Post: | | | |

| | | My given name is Tamala Jean, I used to hate it. Too many people pronouce it tam-ala (long A in the middle), it actually rhymes with Pamela. But now we have Tamala Edwards on ABC, I'm so psyched...LOL My mom made my name up from 2 of her best friends, Pam & Tammy. My "nickname" is Tami. My middle name was given to me by my father it was always a name he liked and later in life when he found his biologica family he found out that one of his sisters' names was Jean...I've always thought that was kinda cool so I tried to keep it in the family.
When I started having kids I vowed that they would have "normal" names, I was never able to get personalized stuff at the mall like my friends, Linda & Michelle when I was growing up and I wanted my kids to be able to. So that's why we have Diane Lyn, Leslie Jean, & Harry Vincent Jr. The latter two I didn't actually name, my ex did, if I had my choice Leslie would have been Melinda Diane or Jamie Diane and Harry would have either been James Daniel or Daniel James. (Diane is my mom's middle name).
The only interesting names in my family are my nephew Krew and my niece Lilly Belle. Heather, Keith, Maeghan & Madalyn are pretty normal in my book.
