I wonder who their backers are really.
Interesting point, but I doubt that's it. There are just enough people who think exactly the way they do to promote their ideals and give them the power they have.

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

ESPN did a multi part story on the percentage of black players in MLB about a month ago to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson. If my memory serves the figures they gave were that the MLB was comprised of 20% black players in 1970 and its down to about 8% now.

ESPN dug deeper and went to several traditionally black universities (Grambling, Hampton, Berea) and found that many black college students just werent interested in playing baseball.

In conclusion, Jesse Jackson please shut up. Not everything is a racial issue. Sometimes its just about kids wanting to play one sport instead of another, and that correlating to the major leagues.

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

JJ makes me laugh. As far as educated African-Americans like myself are concerned, he's nothing but a joke. I'm surprised he hasn't asked for a meeting w/ the NHL yet. If there's ANY sport that blacks are underrepresented in it's hockey. Now that's a cause i'd get behind......Just kidding.

Someone asked earlier why he's "relevant" and I have to say that people like him, Al Sharpton, etc. cater to poor, uneducated blacks and pander to their fears/insecurities/etc. They're the people that feel all whites are against them and enjoy living on welfare and food stamps.

In addition, he gets support from whites who still harbor guilt over slavery & the civil rights movement and feel like they're doing a service to the black community when they support those guys (or affirmative action, or reparations, or whatever it is that makes them feel like they're doing right by black people).

Finally, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and in this case the "grease" is the media coverage. JJ, AS, etc. know just what to say/do to get the media behind them so they can get their faces plastered all over the papers/TV/internet.

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

No, I am not afraid to post my views on Jesse Jackson. I offended someone here earlier in a previous post and I didnt want to do that again. I think he is a bunch of crap and needs to get off his high horse. All he is does is complain about this and that. I think he is trying to be another Martin Luther King (but doing it a$$ backwards) and noone can replace Martin Luther King.

Here is a poster that is afraid to type what she thinks? Why?

Is this the type of enviroment that Jesse has created? One where people cannot freely give their thoughts?

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

Read this and it sums up pretty well how I think the majority of America feels about JJ and the gang:

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

For the most part I think Jesse Jackson just likes to stir up trouble, but I do give him credit. He has settled quite a few international disputes. Al Sharpton on the other hand, IMO, is just intolerable.

Re: Jesse Jackson Upset...

IMO JJ represents those who don't or just won't as W.E.B Dubois would say pull themselves up by their boot straps. We all have the power to control our own circumstances...yes some of us have to work harder to gain control and influence the outcome of our lives but success is offered to everyone.

If you believe in yourself and know who u are noone can tell u different. JJ represents those who allow outside influences to direct their path rather than the knowledge of who you are and what you can acomplish.
