Five Happy Things

Over in my blog, friends and I have a tradition of doing a "Five Happy Things" or gratitude post. The purpose of these posts was to find, even on our worst of days, five things in our lives that made us happy or for which we were (to whatever Prime Mover we choose to honor) thankful.

I've found that these kinds of lists can be cathartic... That when life truly sucks, searching our lives for even the simplest of things that make us smile can be therapeutic. In fact, I like to make these lists when I'm so damned overwhelmed I don't know where to turn.

It doesn't always have to be five - sometimes there are more, and often there are less - but five is a nice number for which I aim.

So the purpose of this thread is for a random check-in... Post your five happy things for the day, the week, or the month. Check in regularly, or just when you need to feel grounded again.

Really... It's good therapy.

Five Happy Things

1. The dogs... without them I'd be insane. Or, rather, more insane than I am now. And even though it's spring and manly-dog is driving me out of my mind by wanting to go through the windows to chase the bunnies, I wouldn't trade them for anything.

2. An awesome DART driver on my evening ride. He calls me "Ladybug" and remembers my stop and always tells me, when I ask him how he is, that he is "blessed." He makes my evening ride enjoyable.

3. The coffee shop downstairs still has gingerbread syrup for my lattes. I get them once in a blue moon, but this morning I really needed one and they came through for me.

4. Tylenol PM. Do I really need to explain why?

5. Pistachios. Because I just can't get enough.

Re: Five Happy Things

My wife's laugh. It's contagious no matter what kind of mood I'm in.

A cold beer after a hard days work or accomplishment. (what a surprize).

Social intercourse with you folks.

To add to the pistachio vibe (they make me happy too), CHEETOS and iced tea, gotta have them. Eat a whole bag then lick my orange fingers.

The bottom part of frozen water ice.

Man, that's a great list!

I've never met your wife, but the last 4 are spot on.

Zingo's has had the 16 oz. jumbo bags of Herr's Cheese Curls on sale for $2.50 for about 2 months. I friggin' go through 2 to 3 of 'em a week.

And you gotta love that sticky, syrupy bottom of the water ice when you flip it upside down. I even like the taste of the wooden spoon.

Re: Five Happy Things

My list would probably change every other day.

My 5 Things for Friday, April 11th 2007.

1. I'm happy that I have just a little hangover that will be gone in time for me to enjoy a few beers with the Phils game on TV tonight.

2. I'm happy that even though I don't have work today, my wife doesn't give a shit if I dick around on this computer all day.

3. I'm happy that a local store has what turned out to be a difficult video game to find for my daughter's birthday.

4. I'm happy that it's comfortable enough outside for me to wear shorts and sandals today.

5. I'm happy that this *%$@! cold/flu I've had for 2 weeks has finally bit the dust and I can actually think happy thoughts again.

Cool, your head was pounding too? In about two more hours, hair of the dog baby!

I just reread that head pounding part again. I sound like Beavis.

Re: Five Happy Things

Thank you BC for this...I'm at a place where I really need to sit back and look at the MANY wonderful things about my life. I guess my list would be:

1. My children...ALWAYS my children

2. Very special friends and family who see the insanity and stay by my side and in my heart.

3. My critters for the unconditional love and always being accepting of a hug from me; they may drive me nuts at time but I love them(despite the mud they bring into the house).

4. My job...it can be frustrating at times but the people I have around me here are the best.

5. Every minute I get on here with all of you...it seems to be more and more rare, but that just makes me appreciate more.

and I'm going to go one more and add on chocolate.
