Fire Prevention week starts tomorrow. This year's national theme is ''Prevent Home Fires." Take a look around. Check for frayed wires, loose plugs, wires under carpets and undersized extension cords. As we close up the house and turn on the heat, what has changed since last heating season? New pets? New babies? New address? Have you added an electric heater, kerosene heater or wood stove? Does your fireplace chimney need cleaning? Be sure to feed your smoke detectors new batteries if they need them. Be extra careful with candles and stove top cooking. Does last year's escape plan still work this year? Do you have a meeting place outside? Do your kids know what to do in case of fire? Do they know the emergency phone number? Do they know what an emergency is? Are you sure? Brush the spider webs out of your head and put fire safety up front in your mind. Stay safe.
