If there's ice on every window, and I think of it in time, I definitely start it up, turn on the front and rear defrost, and let it warm up for about 10 minutes. That way I'm not scraping every window/windshield on the car for 10 minutes.
Also, if there's snow on it, heating it up makes it easy to just slide a big sheet off the roof and hood.
And on REALLY cold, windy mornings, like today, I'll do it.
Getting in my own car is one of my triggers to light a smoke for the ride to work. The last thing I want to do is get into an ice cold car, AND roll the window down so I can exhaust the smoke.
I really don't consider it a waste of gas at all. An automobile is a luxury, even if it's a piece of shit like mine. Yes, they are also necessessities in most cases, but you might as well enjoy them.
Air Conditioning is a waste of gas, too. But on a 95 degree day, do you really consider it a waste?

My Mood: | | | Re: Do you warm your car up? I'm with Kid, I'm NOT jumping into an ice cold car right after I've had a nice hot shower, and I'm NOT spending 10 minutes in the cold to scrape the ice off. I'm old and I've earned the luxury of a warm car!

My Mood: | | | Re: Do you warm your car up? depends on how cold and if theres frost/snow on the windows, plus it doesn't take long for a v8 to get warm .If not then its hit the key and go. I live less than a mile from work and have warm air blowing before getting there but I have to make the obligatory trip to wawa every morning. lol | | The Following User Says Thank You to gtstang For This Useful Post: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
