Nearly 77 percent of Americans, drove alone to work in 2005, when gas prices eclipsed $3 a gallon, according to U.S. Census data released Wednesday. About 80 percent of Delawareans drove alone to work.
"It's the convenience," Creighton said. "It's worth the extra money not to go through the added hassle of making arrangements."
Tammy Ford, project manager for Ride Share Delaware, said more and more First Staters are inquiring about car- or van-pooling, especially those who live out of state or in the suburbs.
"Whenever the cost of gas goes up, we get more calls," she said. "But people are also commuting farther, and they want to give themselves a break. They want someone else to do the driving once in a while."

DO you drive to work alone or carpool? What are your reasons for carpooling or not carpooling? What's your estimated milage roundtrip? Would you prefer taking public transportation if it was effective (gets you to work on time, convienent, etc)? Are there any other options out there?
I drive to work alone which is about 8-10 miles from my home. Then I drive to wilmington to pick up kids and then head home to Bear. All together I'd estimate it at 40 miles roundtrip daily (could be less). I spend about $20 - $30 a week on gas.
