What makes menthol taste like menthol is menthol.
It's a blend of mint and sometimes eucalyptus oils that is applied to the filter.
The thing that breaks inside is a little capsule of menthol oil. If you want menthol cigarettes, you crush the capsule. If not, leave it alone.
I'm guessing it's probably a glycerine capsule.
