When I lived over in the Bear Ghetto, the apartments that had the washer and dryer in unit also had a fireplace.
And while it was nice to be able to stock up on free wood in the summer, and keep the fireplace going all winter and keep heat costs down, I was always worried about some stupid idiot in the apartment setting fire to the whole building.
Especially after I went to my neighbor's house one evening. He was drunk off his backside, and had some kind of knotty pine wood or something in his fireplace that was popping hot embers all over his carpet.. And he was too drunk to notice. I didn't want to stay over there but I also didn't want to leave because if his apartment burned down mine would too. |

Laundromat
Apartment community W/D
W/D in the basement of my first home
And now in my second home I have my laundry room on the second floor, right next to my bedroom. Talk about luxury.
To some it may seem trivial, but to be able to take my laundry and just walk into the next room is soooooo convenient. No lugging it up and down to the basement.
I didn't plan it that way. The spare room already had the plumbing and electricity set up for it by the previous owners.
Going forward I will make sure any new home I move into has it. COMPLETELY worth the annoyance of getting the W/D's up the stairs. | | The Following User Says Thank You to Delguy92 For This Useful Post: | |

My Mood: | | | Re: Apartment Living Rant I agree with everyone else, hit the laundry mat. I don't know about the laundry mats around you, but there is one down the road from me I use for my comforters and larger items and they charge only a little more for them to wash and fold your items. When I am washing my comforters I use them sometimes because it's convient for me to drop off before work and pick up after.
To be honest, when I was apartment hunting I did not bother to even look at an apartment that did not have a W/D in the unit. I have heard so many horror stories, including one friend who continually had her bra's and panties stolen and she set her watch so her clothing didn't sit... this person stole them while they were washing and/or drying.
I wish you the best!!

One had the laundry room on the second floor with the bedrooms. My wife was all about that. I'm sure it is a nice bonus.

I've always thought how nice it would be to have a second floor laundry room but I would be afraid of what would happen if there was a leak or major issue. Have you had any trouble that way? I mean, I just know what we went through when one of the upstairs toilets didn't stop filling and it became a fountain (clean water thank God)for 10 minutes before we caught it; I couldn't imagine a washing machine problem.
