| | Hi! I moved here in February of 2000 from North Carolina. I wasn't a tourist, I had never even visited and came here with the intention of living and working here, don't know if that makes a difference, lol.
So how long does it take before I can say I'm a 'real' local y'all?

| | | Well, I have been here for 15 years and in the minds of some I still would be considered an out-of-stater ... One guy told me when I moved here, doesn't matter how long you're here, you'll always be an over-the-bridger, coming from PA In any case, welcome to Delaware, we're almost neighbors.

Could you say why that is? Is it because your heart is somewhere else, or because you consider the local environment unfriendly, or what? I'm asking because next week I will be in Wilmington looking for a home to buy and generally so that my partner and I can try to decide if we would possibly like living there. So I'm very interested in the reason it still doesn't feel like home to you after nearly 30 years.

| | Just jumping on the bandwagon here, lol, everyone else is doing it!
I found out later that same year that I've actually been here before. When I was 4 years old and we'd just came over from Germany, we took the ferry across the bay from Cape May, heading to Virginia to move near my moms parents. I had no idea I'd ever been here before, lol. Weird.
Edit: This post was on my oldest sons b-day the year after he moved to NC. I was so sad that day, looking for something to take my mind off stuff. Well, it didnt work, but over time I've found a lot of people share my ups and downs with. Wasnt expecting it, so, that's kinda cool.

| | | And since you are a LSD Delawarean, you must understand you will never be a local to the true locals. I was born in Delaware County, PA... just across the state line, used to ride my bike to Delaware. Moved to Middletown in 1988. I will never ever ever be a true local. I know a lady who was born in another state, moved to Milton at the age of 7 days... and despite that fact, the locals do not call her a local nor a true Delawarean.... she's 85 years old!

I have a feeling that whoever said that belongs to a very elite hard core Delawarean clan or something. lol I'll ask a few friends I know what they think.
